Tuesday Racing Tips: Toon has more to come

There are four meetings scheduled in Britain and Ireland on Tuesday, two jumps fixtures at Leicester and Down Royal accompanied by a pair of AW Flat cards, one of which is under the lights. 

Newcastle gets the action underway at 12:43, closely followed by Down Royal (12:50) and Leicester (13:32), prior to Southwell's floodlit fixture at 17:00. 

Among our Tuesday fancies is one for trainer Stuart Crawford, who bids to provide his yard with back-to-back wins in the concluding handicap chase at Down Royal.

15:02 Leicester - Tigers Moon @ 13/8

Tom Ellis and Jack Andrews are a combination going places and they hold strong claims in this handicap hurdle courtesy of the progressive TIGERS MOON.

The selection has shown rapid improvement since going handicapping this season, winning at Uttoxeter in October and Southwell last month, the latter with a good bit more in hand than the bare margin implies.

He's now 19lb higher than when opening his account, but he ran to a Racing Post Rating of 102 last time, so has very little in the way of improvement to find if he's to overcome his new official mark of 103.

This heavy ground is an unknown, but his sire, Pether's Moon, won on very soft and his half-brother, Rafferty's Revenge, was twice successful in the mud.

15:20 Down Royal - Toon Town @ 13/2

TOON TOWN is yet to open his account for Gavin Cromwell, but he's posted a string of solid efforts for the trainer and represents a solid alternative against 6/4 favourite, Shanroe Act.

The nine-year-old has a modest strike-rate under rules of 1-20, that success coming over hurdles off a mark of 84 at Wexford in May 2024 when in the care of Brendan Maurice Walsh.

Switched to fences upon joining Cromwell at the start of last year, he's shown gradual improvement since having a tongue-tie added and recorded a personal best when beaten a short-head at Catterick last month, aided by first-time blinkers.

Toon Town retains the headgear on Tuesday afternoon and is able to race off his 2lb lower Irish mark.

15:50 Down Royal - Al Kalila @ 4/1

Gavin Cromwell landed this race last season with 12/1 chance Now Where Or When and he holds live claims once again, this time thanks to AL KALILA.

The selection's only win so far came in a maiden hurdle at Ayr in February last year, but he's run very creditably in his three outings since, the last twice over fences.

Fourth in a big field handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse last spring, he's looked better than ever since being switched to chasing, running to Racing Post Ratings of 127 and 125 when placed over this trip at Kelso.

A repeat of either of those efforts would give him every chance running off today's official mark of 120 and his proven stamina could be key, bearing in mind that hat-trick seeking market leader, Diamond Dollar, who was clobbered with a 15lb rise for last weekend's chasing debut victory, yet to race beyond 2m4f.
