Monday Racing Tips: Blues can sing the right note at Hexham

The fun doesn’t stop there, however, as Newcastle offers up an interesting all-weather card to take us through the evening. Among my Monday Racing Tips is an Alan King runner who was highly tried earlier on in the season and can follow up his success in a lower grade at Huntingdon last time out.

14:00 Hexham - Blues Singer @ 6/5
Alan King had a couple of placed horses at Aintree and has been among the winners in the last fortnight. His runner, BLUES SINGER, has been highly tried over hurdles but appreciated the drop in grade at Huntingdon last time, where he duly obliged.
Strong at the finish on that occasion, he overcame a mistake at the third-last and kept on well to score by just shy of five lengths. The handicapper is suggesting that Red Oak is the one to beat here but Alan King’s runner appears to have the higher ceiling.
He showed a significant amount of promise as a bumper horse, winning well at Kempton on his debut before being denied by a nose in a Class 3 event at Ascot. The son of Blue Bresil has run in the Grade 2 Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle, which tells us that connections rate him highly.

14:30 Hexham - Young Getaway @ 7/2
Nicky Richards is probably the most in-form trainer in Britain and is on quite a hot streak. Each of his last six runners going into this weekend managed to win, so that definitely bodes well for YOUNG GETAWAY.
This son of Getaway has made only five starts over hurdles and he has reached the frame in all but one of them. He produced an excellent performance to get off the mark in a 2m1f maiden at Newcastle in February 2025 and he finished five lengths clear of Cahier’s Den.
His next start came at this meeting last year and he was less than a length behind the winner on that occasion, carrying a penalty. Some better luck in running would surely have resulted in another victory and there was plenty to like about that performance.
Obviously it’s a slight concern that he hasn’t been seen for a year but this will be his first handicap start, which should bring about further improvement, and the seven-year-old could take well to fences. A mark of 110 could prove to be very generous.

19:00 Newcastle - Wicket Keeper @ 7/1
WICKET KEEPER has moved yards a couple of times already but he looks well set to earn a first success since joining Antony Brittain here. He has had just the three starts in handicaps and it seems likely that the best is yet to come.
The son of Kodi Bear did well to win a maiden at Catterick last term as he did plenty wrong in the early stages and looked very green. There was more to come at Doncaster next time though, and he followed up with an impressive success under a penalty.
It was a solid effort when runner-up at Wolverhampton on his first all-weather start last term and he should improve for his latest run at Newcastle last month. Victory could well be on the cards here and he’s one to keep an eye on moving forward.
