Tuesday Racing Tips: Jardine runner to pick them off late

After the mayhem of Easter Monday, it is a slightly more relaxed feel on Tuesday with just three UK meetings taking place. They come at Exeter over jumps, alongside the first day of a new season at Pontefract on the Flat before evening all-weather action from Southwell.

My Tuesday racing tips are below, including one for Iain Jardine that offered a big hint last time out that a win could be incoming.

14:57 Pontefract - Urban Road each-way @ 16/1

A mile is the trip around Pontefract for the first division of the Racing TV Sky Channel 424 Handicap and we could see URBAN ROAD going well for trainer Alan Brown.

The seven-year-old was third on his only visit here over C&D in May 2023, when rated a lowly 50. He has won eight races since, including a rapid all-weather hat-trick in February 2025.

He has run some consistent races on the synthetics this winter and appeared to benefit when dropped back to this trip at Newcastle recently.

He met some trouble in running but finished off well to be denied two lengths in fifth off this mark of 74. Harry Davies' partner should be in the firing line with a repeat on just his ninth turf run.

16:55 Southwell - Pickersgill @ 11/4

Recent Wolverhampton winner Galileo Charm will likely prove popular in this attempt to follow up, but the three-year-old filly has more on her plate.

She got a dream run up the running rail off the final bend in that win three weeks ago and established a clear lead, but the closers were coming at her fast and it could be a long way up the Southwell straight if things play out similarly now.

She's taking on her elders now, too, and PICKERSGILL could be ready to strike for Jardine. The Starspangledbanner filly was formerly with Sheila Lavery in Ireland and earned an opening handicap mark of 78 there.

She's racing off 15lb lower now and produced her best effort so far for this trainer on her third start when a close second over this trip at Wolverhampton last month. She likely would have got up with another stride or two after making good inroads from the rear. In contrast to the likely favourite, the long run to the winning line here could be ideal for this Curragh maiden winner to land her first success in a handicap/on the all-weather.

17:00 Pontefract - The Tunguska Event @ 13/2

Making the running at Pontefract is often a positive tactic and if THE TUNGUSKA EVENT is allowed a soft lead, he could be hard to peg back.

The Kodi Bear gelding has two wins at Newcastle over 6f since switching to handicaps in November.

He dominated in front for his November success under claiming rider Warren Fentiman and had plenty to spare, but his most recent success in the north east was gained despite not being allowed to lead.

He got racing early with the pace-setting Runninman in that contest and saw it out much better than the eventual sixth.

He's rated 5lb higher for the first start in a turf handicap, but Jason Hart's mount can progress again.
