Saturday racing tips 2

The Cambridgeshire Meeting at Newmarket comes to a conclusion on Saturday, as does the Listowel Harvest Festival over in Ireland. There's also a classy card from the Curragh, featuring the Goffs Million, to enjoy - plus a mix of flat and jumping action from Haydock, Ripon, Market Rasen and Southwell.

Lots to get stuck into, then, as I come up with some Saturday racing tips for your consideration.

Saturday Racing Tips - September 27, 2025

  • 15:00 Newmarket - Wise Approach @ 1/1
  • 15:40 Newmarket - Tribal Chief each-way @ 11/1
  • 15:50 Haydock - Lost Boys @ 2/1
  • 16:15 Newmarket - Quiescent each-way @ 11/2

15:00 Newmarket - Wise Approach @ 1/1

Start as we mean to go on - WISE APPROACH in the Middle Park is my Nap of the Day.

His four-length romp over the 108-rated Rock On Thunder, runner-up in the Gimcrack at York on his subsequent start, and close third behind Royal Ascot winners Venetian Sun (113) and Gstaad (115) in the Prix Morny at Deauville last time out are comfortably the best pieces of form on offer in this field of nine.

The closest rival to Charlie Appleby's 114-rated son of Mehmas according to ORs is Coppull, who was just shy of seven lengths behind in France. I see no reason why that form won't be confirmed.

Joseph O'Brien's The Publican's Son is interesting in that he was chucked into a Group 3 on debut at the Curragh last month and finished under a length behind Aidan O'Brien's Mission Central. The latter didn't really frank the form at Doncaster next time out, though, and ultimately his SP was 40/1 for a reason.

Hilitany and Five Ways have 20lbs and 16lbs respectively to find on the selection - while the others are difficult to advise on all known form.

He ought to take the world of beating for the boys in blue.

15:40 Newmarket - Tribal Chief each-way @ 11/1

The big race of the day, of the week in fact, is the Cambridgeshire - an historic handicap over 1m1f on the Rowley Mile. Betfred are paying six places, which I intend to take full advantage of.

High draws are usually favoured in this famous race, with eight of the last nine winners coming from stall 20 or higher, which bodes well for my selection TRIBAL CHIEF (20).

David Menuisier's four-year-old son of Sioux Nation looks overpriced on a line through the favourite Treble Tee, whom he beat fair and square at Goodwood last time out. The selection is actually three pounds better off this time, yet is over double the price.

The difference is too much for me and this progressive handicapper, who was rated just 71 this time last year, can make his presence felt at a track he's run very well at twice before.

15:50 Haydock - Lost Boys @ 2/1

I suspect LOST BOYS will be the shortest price of my Saturday selections.

Another for Mr. Menuisier, the two-year-old Night Of Thunder colt has finished third in a couple of hot maidens - firstly at Newbury behind the Royal Lodge favourite Bow Echo and secondly at Ascot trailing the useful River Card and Maltese Cross, who followed up at HQ on Thursday.

They're solid pieces of form in the context of this mile-long maiden and unless one of the newcomers, probably Poseidon's Warrior - a son of Sea The Stars for Charlie Appleby and Godolphin - or Saxophonic - a 625k guineas-buy with a Futurity Trophy entry - is well above-average, the selection should be getting off the mark at the third attempt.

16:15 Newmarket - Quiescent each-way @ 11/2

The Wathnan Racing-backed Hamad Al Jehani seems to excel at training juveniles. He's saddled 21 since moving to Newmarket in April last year, and five of those have obliged (24% strike rate). A further eight finished in the places.

His Pinatubo colt QUIESCENT is another who can at least make his presence felt in this nursery handicap on Merseyside.

He caught the eye on debut at HQ back in July, overcoming a slow start and hanging left under pressure to finish a remote second to Sir Mark Prescott's Moon Target, who bolted up on his next start before a narrow defeat in the G3 Prestige Fillies' Stakes at Goodwood last month.

The selection disappointed at the West Sussex venue on his next start, but conditions were desperate and it's my opinion that he didn't enjoy it at all.

He bounced back to form at Chepstow just under four weeks ago, beating an odds-on shot by four-and-a-half widening lengths. Much more like it.

On that evidence, an opening mark of 80 could easily underestimate him - especially on Saturday with Jack Nicholls taking off a further five pounds off his back.

Odds of X/X look far too big and he must have an outstanding each-way chance.

16:15 Newmarket - Each-way (1/5 - 3 places)
Quiescent
