Sandown racecourse

Day two at the Glorious Goodwood Festival takes precedence in the UK and Ireland on Wednesday, but there is an interesting six-race card coming our way from Sandown that has caught my attention.

Below you will find my Sandown Park Tips for Wednesday, July 30.

Sandown Park Tips - Wednesday, July 30

18:15 Sandown Park - Novelette @ 5/2

Simon & Ed Crisford won this Class 4 nursery handicap over 5f last year with Adrestia, so they will be hoping to defend their crown in 2025. They have a good chance with the impressive NOVELETTE, who landed her maiden success last time out at Yarmouth (5f).

Interestingly, Adrestia was also victorious at Yarmouth before going on to win this race a year ago, so if you believe in omens, this is the horse for you. The two-yer-old filly has placed in all three of her starts to date, showing improvements with each run, and she still has plenty more to offer.

Ground conditions are looking good for her first visit to Sandown and she will once again be in the capable hands of jockey Hollie Doyle, who steered her to victory last time out.

19:25 Sandown Park - Earthwatch @ 7/4

This Class 5 handicap over 1m has eight runners declared and there are a few worthy candidates for your buck here based on form. EARTHWATCH for William Haggas' yard is the horse who has my favour, despite still searching for his maiden success.

The three-year-old gelding has shown massive improvement on his last two outings, posting a third-place finish on his handicap debut at Newmarket in June, before finishing runner-up to Nakaaha at Newbury earlier this month in a field of 10.

He's up 2lbs on this occasion but he pulled clear of third last time out and Haggas and connections feel as though he is open to more progress. On recent form, it feels like that first victory isn't far away and I think there is value to be had in backing the son of Earthlight.

19:25 Sandown - Winner Earthwatch

20:00 Sandown Park - Bintalina @ 11/2

Roger Varian saddles BINTALINA in this Class 5 fillies' handicap over 1m 2f. There are nine rivals to contend with and there are a couple with stronger claims but I think she could be set for a strong ride.

She has had three starts to date, and her debut at Haydock (1m) left a lot to be desired as she finished sixth out of 10 in April. Varian witnessed progress in her second out at Bath in a maiden Stakes contest over 1m, losing out to Wednesday's rival Star of Dubai by a half-length.

Stepped up to 1m 2f on last appearance at Salisbury and finished runner-up again, this time five lengths behind the victor. It was a respectable first effort over this distance and the general feeling is that there is more to come and that she can have a bright future in handicaps.

20:00 Sandown - Winner Bintalina
