Royal Ascot Day 4 Lucky 15 Tips: Friday – Cracking value on offer

Friday, June 20 - and it's Day 4 of the Royal meeting. We're having some welcome success, and also horses are registering via the each-way angle. Great to fire in two winners on Wednesday for example - at advised prices of 7/1 and 11/1. I'll take that all day long and twice on Sunday. First two winners on Thursday, too. Great stuff.
Each-way with our Lucky 15 tips is again the advised play for today, with big fields, enhanced places and ultra-competitive action the constant theme. I hope you're having a good week and enjoying the spectacle, whether you're having a little tickle or not. The sun shining too is a fabulous added bonus. Enjoy!
Lucky 15 Tips - Friday, June 20
Royal Ascot
14:30 (Albany) - Ipanema Queen @ 10/1
Two-year-old fillies go 6f in our G3 opener.
I've sided with a raider from Rathowen, County Westmeath, in the care of trainer Adrian Murray. A daughter of Gimcrack winner Sands Of Mali - the once-raced Ipanema Queen.
That run was 28 days ago at the Curragh, and the filly bolted up by 5.5l. The distant third has since finished a neck second in a decent Fairyhouse maiden and though more will doubtless be required to lift this terrific prize it was a performance full of promise.
David Egan takes over from Wayne Lordan in the saddle, and being out of a Dutch Art (won the Norfolk) mare (plus Sands of Mali was second in the Commonwealth Cup), there's definitely a Royal meeting vibe about this one.
Each-way terms are 1/5 odds, four places.
15:05 (Commonwealth Cup) - Babouche @ 5/1
Ireland have enjoyed plenty of joy so far and we're going for another of their runners here with Ger Lyons' Babouche.
The three-year-old Kodiac filly has run on six occasions, registering an impressive four victories. She's won at 6.5f too - I like it when horses have shown the ability to get a little further than the question asked on the day as it's often an indication that they'll run through the line strongly.
Last time out 33 days ago Babouche registered a season-best with a comfortable G3 Naas success against Ballydoyle's Whistlejacket, who re-opposes today.
This step up to G1 company looks totally appropriate as she was a winner at this level at two (Phoenix Stakes), and looks to graduate with flying colours this afternoon on this massive stage for Juddmonte and their new, all-conquering retained rider Colin Keane, who must be pinching himself on an hourly basis.
Each-way terms are 1/5 odds, four places.
15:40 (Duke of Edinburgh) - French Duke @ 13/2
Seasoned handicappers go a mile-and-a-half; nineteen of them. I'm already having nightmares about the home turn run!
My selection is a four-year-old Sea The Stars gelding with Roger Varian at HQ, who's looking to strike after being gelded in December and not having seen a racecourse since September.
To be precise, an absence of some 286 days. What encourages me though is that Wathnan Racing purchased French Duke last summer, after which he pocketed a good prize at Goodwood off a mark of 88; and of course the Varian factor. One of our top trainers, and just the fella to coax the best out of 'the Duke.'
He runs off 99 this afternoon but performed well when last seen off 97 (beaten 3l here at this trip), and if improving at all for the gelding procedure must be right in the picture.
Drawn 15 isn't ideal but let's hope retained Wathnan pilot James Doyle can find a trip that works, and not have to rely upon a sensational Rolls Royce-style finish as per his Tuesday win on French Master.
Luckily that one had about a stone in hand as it played out, but we can do without the drama!
Each-way terms are 1/5 odds, five places.
17:00 (Sandringham) - Alfareqa @ 12/1
Three-year-old fillies go a mile in this big-field handicap over the straight course.
I'm with a daughter of the mighty Frankel, out of a Starspangledbanner mare, who has had just the three starts. Modest performance on debut at Kempton over 7f at two; then a couple of spins this season on an entirely different plane, taking a Donny maiden then improving again in defeat in a Leicester novice at this one mile trip.
The latter run was on good-to-soft, and at a very tough track in terms of seeing out the testing pull to home. Alfareqa led until around the distance before going down by 3l, and on this good-to-firm terrain she can resume her upward trajectory.
Carrying just 8st 6lb is why I'm assuming that Jim Crowley isn't, as per, doing the steering, but as super-subs go Dave Probert is right up there. On handicap debut, regally-bred, clad in Shadwell blue and with the excellent Owen Burrows (of Anmaat fame) looking after her I can see a very big run on the cards.
Each-way terms are 1/5 odds, six places.
This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.25p each-way Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £2,300 for your total £7.50 stake.
