Nottingham Tips: Rainwater ready to strike on Thursday

Flat action holds sway across the UK on Thursday and our focus is on the six-race card at Nottingham, running from 14:12-17:07.

14:12 - Rainwater @ 11/8

A field of five will battle it out over 1m 75y in the opening race on the card, an apprentice handicap, and this looks like a prime opportunity for RAINWATER to pick up a third career success.

Richard Fahey's charge put in some positive performances before winning a 13-runner handicap at Hamilton on June 11, scoring by half a length to get the better of Bellasio.

The four-year-old gelding, who will have Ethan Tindall on board, has been nudged up 3lb for that success and he looks to have every chance of following up with another victory.

15:22 - Arduis Invicta @ 11/2

A bumper field of 14 runners will contest the third race on the card - a restricted maiden stakes for two-year-old's over 6f 18y - and there are plenty of contenders that look to have solid claims.

One of those is the Craig Lidster-trained ARDUIS INVICTA, who showed real promise when finishing second on debut over 5f at Beverley in April.

Back-to-back fifth-placed efforts have been recorded since, at Chester and Beverley, but the hope is that being upped in trip for this Nottingham run will bring about an improvement.

17:07 - Cosmic Soul @ 2/1

The finale at Nottingham is a handicap over 1m 6f and six runners will go down to post, with COSMIC SOUL getting the nod to best his five rivals.

Although yet to end up in the winners' enclosure, the Patrick Neville-trained gelding has come agonisingly close to changing that with three runners-up efforts this year.

The first two second-placed finishes came at Catterick over 1m 7f before that same result was notched at Redcar over this distance.

Very little was done wrong in all three of those performances and this could finally be the time Cosmic Soul, who has finished in front of a couple of these rivals already this season, manages to get his head in front.
