Nap of the day with owen mcmahon

It's a new week, at least as far as my NAP of the Day commitments are concerned, and hopes are high about starting it in style.

We go to 'Ponte Carlo' on Tuesday eyeing a winner in the second race on the card.

After a couple of encouraging efforts in defeat, KINETIC IMPACT is tipped to make it third time lucky at Pontefract on Tuesday.

Charles Hills' three-year-old ran respectably in deeper contests at Chepstow and Sandown in May and June respectively, and the 90k guineas son of Zelzal ought to appreciate these calmer waters.

His fourth of eight on debut at Chepstow back in May is relatively strong form. The winner, Echo Of Stars, was rated 87, while El Nay (third) and Alfaraz (fifth) were 86 and 90 respectively.

The selection can be marked up slightly, too. He got off to a very slow start and was forced to race in rear from the word go. When asked to make up a significant amount of distance with just under five furlongs left to race, he made good headway and finished arguably as well as anything bar the winner.

Horse Racing Odds

I'm surprised he was sent off as big as 20/1 at Sandown next time out, for all it was up in grade against an odds-on John & Thady Gosden debutant related to Group 2-winning stablemate Gregory, on the back of his debut run.

That one could only manage second after doing so much wrong, beaten by the 82-rated Turty Tree. The selection was third, just two lengths off the pace. Another fine effort.

He's entitled to take another step forward on Tuesday, with Tom Marquand taking the reins, and take a bit of beating in this modest-looking maiden over 1m2f.

At time of writing, it's the four-year-old Tiernan who's our biggest danger according to the betting. He was a classy three-year-old, reaching a mark of 101, but his form has fallen off a cliff of late. He's hard to advise right now.

Talitha Rouge is another contender, but the daughter of Space Blues has a bit to find in my book. Similar sentiments apply to Steel Raven.

Khepri and Moon Zabeel need a market check, but all things considered I think this is an outstanding opportunity for Kinetic Impact. He was clearly the best bet of the day for me.
