Nap of the day with owen mcmahon

It was a strong end to last week for followers of my Nap of the Day selections, courtesy of winners on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

How about a four-timer? With Ffos Las abandoned and Clonmel in doubt, it's to Southwell go looking for more success.

Regular readers will know I'm a big fan of both Ben Pauling and Callum Pritchard, who team up for AS LEGENDS HAVE IT at Southwell on Tuesday.

I fancied the six-year-old son of Jack Hobbs for a handicap hurdle at Cheltenham's November Meeting a few weeks ago and he ran a blinder to finish third of 18, just over a length off the winner.

A rise of five pounds ahead of his chasing debut in this 0-120 handicap over 2m4½f looks a little harsh, but this is a drop in class and there could be any amount of improvement to come in this new discipline.

The point-to-point recruit is reportedly showing the right signs at home, with his trainer telling Sporting Life in a recent stable tour: "He is a proper little jumper and he is working nicely."

What's key on Tuesday is the question marks that surround all of his five rivals.

The Bluesman was a costly point-to-point recruit for Paul Nicholls a couple of years ago and the six-year-old looked an above-average sort in bumpers before struggling over hurdles. Switched to Olly Murphy, off an opening mark of just 114, he could be very interesting - but he bled on his last start and wears a tongue tie here. That's one too many warning signs for me.

Dunstall Rambler struggled off a career-high 112 at Aintree last time out and has only been offered a pound relief - while Bowenspark appeared to hate every second of his fencing debut at Bangor in October.

Outsiders Kayce Dutton and Planned Paradise have plenty to do on all known form.

If he jumps well and if The Bluesman isn't back to something like his best, As Legends Have It ought to prove hard to beat in this company.
