Nap of the day with owen mcmahon

Meetmebythesea obliged for Nap of the Day followers on Saturday and I'm looking to make it the perfect weekend 24 hours later.

Despite the classy cards at Cheltenham and Navan, it's Fontwell the destination for Sunday's selection.

Anthony Honeyball has made a strong start to the season. He's operating at a 21% strike rate in the past fortnight, courtesy of three winners - including Badger Beers hero Gustavian - from 14 runners.

That's a good omen for CRACKERJACQUE who make his debut over hurdles at Fontwell on Sunday.

The five-year-old son of Diamond Bay was a fairly smart bumper horse, finishing fifth of 12 behind the unbeaten, Grade 1-bound Sober Glory at Exeter on debut last December before getting off the mark at Sandown a couple of months into the new year.

He pulled over three lengths clear of Harry Derham's Mondoui'boy, who was subsequently sixth of 22 in one of the many bumpers at the Punchestown Festival. That one had Hurricane Pat, a previous and next-time-out winner who also made a stylish start over hurdles last week, a further three lengths adrift.

That's a smart piece of form, so it's no surprise connections deemed Crackerjacque worthy of a shot at the Grade 2 at Aintree's Grand National meeting in April.

Things didn't go to plan for the selection on Merseyside, beating just five of 14 rivals home, but that's easily forgiven. He never got into the race on significantly quicker ground than he was used to.

His runs at Exeter and Sandown were on soft and heavy respectively, so a return to a similar surface at Fontwell ought to suit - which can't be said for all of his seven rivals.

Speaking of, Phineas Bunce brings modest bumper form to the table and French recruit Just Forty is hard to weigh up. His rating of 117 could be inflated, like many such types are.

Herbygoesbananas is an interesting runner for Henrietta Knight. He beat subsequent Champion Bumper fourth Caballero Cliff on debut but was disappointing when switched to the flat next time out. He's since been moved yards.

You can't rule out Sam Thomas at the moment but his five-year-old Alfa Charlie has to improve immensely for his debut in Ireland while under the care of Gordon Elliott.

I will be disappointed if Crackerjacque isn't able to beat all of these. He's an odds-on shot for me.
