Nap of the day with owen mcmahon 2

It's been a fine week for NAP of the Day followers and hopefully there's room for one more winner on Saturday.

It's Eclipse day at Sandown and my selection comes in the race immediately before that Group 1 contest in Surrey.

NAP of the Day - Saturday 4 July 2026

Pacific Avenue bids to emulate Blue Bolt for identical connections in the Distaff - a mile-long Listed affair for three-year-old fillies - at Sandown on Saturday, but I think she's vulnerable. Very.

Andrew Balding's daughter of Lope De Vega, owned by Juddmonte and therefore ridden by Colin Keane, was a class act at two, but she looks a completely different proposition this term. And not for the better, either.

Her fifth of seven in The Michael Seely Memorial Fillies' Stakes at York's Dante Festival in May was a bitterly-disappointing return to action - and then her distant third, albeit in a bizarre contest run in testing conditions, in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom on Betfred Derby day was another step backwards.

Has she trained on? The evidence suggests not. There's still time for her to prove otherwise, I suppose, but I'm not prepared to take the risk on Saturday at least.

Sacred Ground for the Gosdens is sure to have her supporters, but I'm sceptical of that one too - while Secret Of Life has it all to prove as the 'could be anything' angle in the race.

The one I'm most convinced about is ACT OF KINDNESS for Charlie Appleby and Billy Loughnane, as William Buick is in New York for the Belmont Oaks and Derby.

This 3.7m guineas daughter of Siyouni is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Ylang Ylang who built upon a promising debut at Newmarket last September by getting off the mark over the same course and distance just a few weeks later.

Fast forward 187 days and she shaped encouragingly in the G3 Nell Gwynn Stakes on return to HQ, finishing third of 12, just under two lengths off the pace.

That form offers mixed messages. The winner and runner-up haven't done much in the meantime, but the fourth-placed Inis Mor has, claiming Listed honours at Goodwood in May before a fine third in the French Oaks at Chantilly last month. Fitzella (fifth) ran a blinder in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, too.

Act Of Kindness was a bit disappointing in the aforementioned Michael Seely on her next start (although she did finish in front of the selection), but that run was during a difficult spell for the yard. They're out of it now, so I'm expecting improvement.

This is just her fifth-ever start, so she's open to plenty of it, and with a touch of luck she ought to be going very close.
