14:31 Newton Abbot - Sassified @ 5/2

Newton Abbot stages a six-race jumps card on Monday afternoon and the best bet of the day comes in the conditional jockeys' selling handicap hurdle at 14:31.

There’s a total of nine runners set to go to post over the trip of two miles and two and a half furlongs, with prolific course winner Sassified appearing to hold standout claims.

The seven-year-old has form figures of 3,2,1,8,9,5,1,1,3 at the Devon track and his latest win came at Newton Abbot off a mark of 82 in June.

Philip Hobbs & Johnson White’s charge got the better of Hill Station - who has since gone on to win at Stratford and finish a narrow second off a rating of 88 at Fontwell - on that occasion and that rates pretty strong form in the context of today’s selling handicap hurdle.

Sassified followed up that success to only be beaten a neck by Gore Point over course and distance and then finished third, again over track and trip, in a race which probably came too soon.

The seven-year-old has been freshened up with a 71-day break, following his summer efforts, and there are no concerns over the course, trip or ground on Monday.

The JP McManus-owned gelding isn’t likely to be holding too many secrets from the handicapper, but Sassified is a constant and reliable performer and he returns to Devon in good form.

Dickens is looking for his fourth win in five starts, but Jennie Candlish’s runner has rocketed up the weights and has a monster 12 stone to shoulder while regular rider Luke Scott cannot claim his 3lbs allowance in this conditional jockeys' contest, which effectively raises Dickens further in the weights.

Gavin, another horse making the market for Sassified, could pose a threat on his best form, but Mickey Bowen’s seven-year-old appears not too keen on winning, having been beaten at odds of 4/7, 6/5 and 5/4 this season.

Sassified looks an excellent play to score a fourth Newton Abbot success and Hobbs & White’s hope rates the Nap of the Day.
