Run over a mile and a half the prestigious Zetland Cup handicap has been won by some notable horses, including the multiple Group 3-winning Blue Monday and Kingdom of Fife.
The Class 2 contest is worth north of £22k to the winner and has drawn the attention of trainer Kevin Philippart De Foy with his improving Amo Racing-owned gelding FIERCE FORTITUDE.
The son of Mehmas has just six runs behind him and is a perfect 2-2 on turf. He won a Brighton maiden (7f, good to firm) in September and comes into this having scored over this course and distance late last month on his first turf handicap.
He had gone close at Wolverhampton (1m1½f) on the Tapeta on his return from a winter break and duly progressed to defy a mark of 86 here after a patient ride from Rowan Scott.
David Egan takes over now and a 4lb rise could be manageable for this improving four-year-old.
Any runner coming north from Induna Stables in Newmarket is worth noting, with the Philippart De Foy yard boasting a handsome record at this track.
He's had six winners from just 17 runners at Redcar over the last five seasons for a 35% strike rate and a +18.37 profit to a level stake.
He can add to his good record here by taking out the Zetland Cup on Bank Holiday Monday.
