NAP of the Day: Jorebel still ahead of the assessor

Nap of the day generic

There are four Monday meetings taking place in Britain as the festive season officially begins on the first day of December.

Jumps action is from Ayr and Plumpton, while all-weather racing is on offer from Kempton in the afternoon and Wolverhampton later in the day.

Monday's NAP of the Day is progressing nicely for trainer Chris Gordon and may be able to maintain recent superiority over Touquet despite a pull at the weights for the Lingfield silver medallist.

14:05 Plumpton – Jorebel @ 5/4

The progressive JOREBEL is taken to add to his recent excellence for Chris & Freddie Gordon in this Chailey Classic & Vintage Tractor Club Handicap Chase over two miles and one furlong.

The six-year-old has been building nicely under both codes and his improvement may not have quite peaked yet.
The run began when he returned from 177 days off to win a Conditional Jockeys' Novices' Limited Handicap Hurdle at Fontwell (2m1½f, good to soft) in September.

He followed up over the same course and distance at the start of October and completed a treble at Worcester (2m4f, good) soon after. He then finished second to a resurgent Poncho at this track off a mark of 102.

The bandwagon rolled on to Lingfield for his chasing debut 13 days ago over two miles on good ground. He made a winning start there, coming out best in a sustained duel with the re-opposing Touquet after the pair had pulled clear of the remainder.

He has won four of seven starts in handicaps and it is reasonable to believe this ex-Irish pointer will go on to better things over fences.

The handicapper has put him up 6lb for the slender success but a mark of 111 is within his scope despite the rise into Class 4 company now.

The extra furlong won't be an inconvenience and he has handled softer ground in his point-to-point career.
Touquet is 4lb better off in this rematch but there is a suspicion that Jorebel is still going to be capable of confirming the form with Nick Gifford's runner.

Three-time chase winner Iskar D'airy remains 4lb above of his last winning mark and has not sparkled in two starts this season, while the same is true of dual Sedgefield scorer Jackpot Cash.

This could well develop into a private affair between the front pair from that Lingfield race and it's worth sticking with Jorebel to earn the verdict for a second time.
