Nap of the Day: Spring is in the air at Dundalk

Wednesday's action has been hit hard by the after-effects of Storm Chandra, with the jumps meetings at Exeter and Leicester abandoned, leaving all-weather meetings at Dundalk and Kempton to hold the fort. Kempton races in the evening, while Dundalk gets underway at 14:32 with seven races through until 17:37 at the Co Louth venue.

Wednesday's Nap of the Day returns from an absence for trainer Joseph O'Brien and is fancied to get on the scoresheet for the first time on her Polytrack debut.

The afternoon meeting at Dundalk begins with the View Restaurant At Dundalk Stadium Maiden over the minimum five furlongs, and it looks a good spot for the returning SPRING IS HERE to get on the scoresheet.

Joseph O'Brien's daughter of Starspangledbanner ran a big race on debut last season as she was fourth behind Lady Iman - beaten just over two-lengths - in the Listed First Flier Stakes at the Curragh.

The winner bagged two Group 3s afterwards, including at Glorious Goodwood, while runner-up True Love won the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot in June for Aidan O'Brien and signed off domestically by landing the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket over six furlongs.

This filly, meanwhile, had two more runs at Tipperary over the minimum trip and perhaps didn't kick on as expected following such a pleasing first outing.

She beat just one rival home in the Listed Tipperary Stakes in July - another strong contest - and was put away afterwards.

Now a three-year-old and likely to have strengthened up during her downtime, Spring Is Here finds a winnable Dundalk maiden for this comeback on her Polytrack bow.

She should be able to excel on the surface, and her trainer has been amongst the winners in recent weeks, while rider Declan McDonogh has three winners from 11 rides at Dundalk so far in 2026.

This is a marked drop in class for Spring Is Here, and the fact that she ran so well on her first start last season bodes well for her ability to shine after 210 days off the track.

Sayonara shaped well on her debut last month for Andrew Slattery, but failed to step up on that over six furlongs since, ensuring it is the more experienced This Guy for trainer Daniel Murphy that may present the biggest danger to the selection.

The Blue Point gelding has finished second in each of his last three starts here, two of them over an extra furlong and twice at prohibitive odds.

He's becoming expensive to follow now, and, while he's not necessarily doing much wrong, he doesn't appear to be crying out for a drop back in trip, and he may find himself unfortunate to be bumping into a filly with more potential as he concedes 5lb in a pair of first-time blinkers.
