Nap of the Day: Local runner Fitz the bill at Limerick

Racing on Tuesday brings with it four meetings across Britain and Ireland, with jumps fare from Chepstow, Newcastle and Limerick preceding the evening all-weather meeting at Wolverhampton as the end of January nears.
It's a hurdles-only card over jumps at Limerick, where they race from 13:10 until 16:33 with heavy ground forecast, and Tuesday's Nap of the Day could be well suited by conditions at Limerick, a track he knows well.

Local trainer Eric McNamara typically targets Limerick, and he's got plenty of chances on this card. They include top-weight Cahirdown Boy in the Limerick Racecourse Annual Membership Handicap Hurdle - a contest for horses rated 0-100.
The Yeats gelding looked on course for a win over fences at Cork (2m4f, yielding to soft) at the start of the month, only to unship Calum Hogan when two lengths to the good jumping the final obstacle.
They are rated 5lb lower now reverting to hurdles and have their chance again on paper, but perhaps this could be the day when HE FITZ IN puts on a performance for another local handler, Askeaton-based Davy Fitzgerald.
This 10-year-old has two wins over hurdles on his CV, including one here, and an extended three miles on testing ground in March 2024 off a mark of 94.
In an ideal world, three-miles would be perfect here, but He Fitz In has form at this intermediate trip. He was second here over track and trip in October 2023 (rated 95) and also went close over this distance at Tramore in November 2024, with both of those runs coming on heavy going.
His form of late lacks consistency, and he has plummeted to a mark of 79 now with Dylan O'Connor's claim. He'll be carrying just a featherweight 10st 2lb on his first Limerick run in 15 months.
The best of his efforts this season have come over fences, but don't discount a big run back at this favoured venue.
He could potentially offer some each-way value at decent odds in a race that looks wide open with Betfred offering FOUR PLACES instead of three.
