Nap of the Day: Screamer can maintain unbeaten record

There are five meetings scheduled across Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, a pair of jumps fixtures at Hereford and Wetherby accompanied by a trio of Flat All-Weather cards, one of which will be under the lights at Kempton.

Dundalk stages a competitive eight-race card in the afternoon, the NAP of the day coming in the finale at the Leinster track.

The Paul Flynn-trained The Real Screamer puts his unbeaten all-weather record on the line in the concluding middle-distance handicap at Dundalk.

While another career-best is required from the son of Awtaad, there’s every reason to believe he’ll prove up to the challenge, having scored with plenty of authority at this track last month on his first start since the summer.

The five-year-old, who has won just one of his 12 outings on turf, is a perfect 3-3 on the artificial surfaces, all of those victories coming over today's course-and-distance.

He gained his first win at Dundalk in November 2024 off a mark of just 47 and his progress since then has been nothing short of meteoric, as he defied a 13lb higher mark the following month, prior to winning off 75 on his seasonal return a fortnight ago.

He has another 8lb rise to contend with, which ought to make life more difficult, but he’s done his winning by margins of three lengths and five lengths (twice), so has really yet to be seriously tested, whatever the grade.

The gelding now has race fitness on his side and the Flynn yard is 2-5 with its runners in the past two weeks.
