Nap of the Day: Seraphic bids for Chelmsford compensation

A trio of Sunday meetings are down to take place across Britain and Ireland, with jumps fare from Fontwell and Punchestown sitting alongside the all-weather meeting at Chelmsford. Betfred are sponsors of all seven races at the Essex venue, where the action begins at 13:42 through until 16:42.
Sunday's Nap of the Day was desperately unlucky at Wolverhampton last time out, and is fancied to pick up some compensation at Chelmsford for the David Killahena & Graeme McPherson yard.

A field of five will enter the gates for this Betfred The Classic Bookmaker Handicap over a mile-and-a-quarter, and recent Wolverhampton second SERAPHIC is fancied to go one spot better for the David Killahena & Graeme McPherson yard.
The Dubawi gelding has just one success on his CV from 16 runs on the all-weather, but his nose-second at Dunstall Park was the fourth time he has made the frame in that sequence.
He spent much of 2025 running over hurdles, having joined this yard, though he did find time to win over this trip at Brighton (good to firm) in April off a mark of 58.
After a break, he ran tamely at Kempton in September and was disappointing again at Wolverhampton (1m4f) in November, but his two most recent efforts have been much more like it.
He was third at Wolverhampton five days before Christmas, beaten less than two lengths after being in the thick of things with a furlong to run in a contest from which the runner-up has emerged to win since at Southwell.
Seraphic, meanwhile, appeared set to start the year with a win back at the Black Country venue when he was produced off the home bend to hit the front under Luke Morris nine days ago.
They were agonisingly foiled by the late rush from Latin, as James Owen's five-year-old made it two wins in three outings, while he has since defied a 5lb penalty to go in again at Wolverhampton over shorter, giving the form a solid appearance.
Seraphic has been nudged up 1lb in the ratings for his near miss, which seems fair, and while he has those 16 all-weather starts in his career, this will be just his fourth attempt at this trip, with form figures of 432 previously.
He can complete that sequential placing improvement now under Callum Hutchinson at the main expense of the filly Three On Thursday, a winner over this trip at Lingfield in December and with two solid efforts since over 1m4f/1m.
