Nap of the day with owen mcmahon

Keep the faith in Deported, who ran like the market suggested he would at Southwell on Tuesday. I'm certain the case for him is right, he just wasn't on a going day - unfortunately for myself and Nap of the Day followers.

We try again to break this run of losers on Wednesday by heading to Catterick for a highly-rated maiden who looks ready to finally break his duck.

JEDDAAL was extremely frustrating to follow last season, but the three-year-old's turn is surely near. At Catterick on Wednesday, I hope.

The Ed Walker-trained three-year-old son of Lope De Vega was thrown into the deep end on debut, lining up in a £12k novice event at York back in June.

He beat just one of six rivals on the Knavesmire, finishing nine lengths adrift of the winner Hankelow - a subsequent Group 3 winner rated 107.

It was a much-improved performance at Beverley the following month, as the Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum-owned gelding was just touched off by Charlie Johnston's odds-on shot Ancient Egypt, who's next-time-out victory earned him a crack at the G2 Royal Lodge.

Jeddaal bumped into one again at Chepstow in August in the form of Queen Tamara for Harry Charlton. She was so unfortunate not to pick up the £25k prize in a Newmarket handicap on her next start off a mark of 79. In all likelihood, she's a mid-80s filly. Maybe more.

Luck - or lack of it - played a significant part in the selection's fourth-placed finish on handicap debut at the Betfred St Leger Festival at Doncaster in September.

From the widest stall, he ducked right out of the gates, meaning he was forced to race in rear for the majority of the seven-furlong contest. The way he finished the race, as well as anything bar the winner, was highly-encouraging.

Finally, that run at Ayr a few weeks later. I'm willing to ignore it entirely, for it was not only his fifth race of the season, but it was also over six furlongs - the shortest trip he's encountered - on soft ground. There's a handful of reasons why it didn't go to plan.

Fast forward exactly 190 days and a gelded Jeddaal reappears at Catterick, back over seven furlongs, in maiden company. It's modest company, too.

North Force is the obvious danger for Richard & Peter Fahey. The three-year-old son of Frankel has caught the eye on both starts to date and if he figures it all out, he's a nice prospect. That's a big if, though, for he's a keen sort who struggles at the start. Watch the market - if the money comes, it's a concern.

Red Spells Danger is the other one to take note of. He's a consistent type with some relatively smart pieces of form in the book, but he's starting to look exposed already. Of course, you never know how much these three-year-olds have improved over the 'off-season', but I'm hopeful about Jeddaal winning that matchup at least.

Those aside, I see little in the way of genuine competition. Decem Starr has been gelded over the winter so perhaps he's the one who could spring a surprise, but otherwise it's a field consisting of uninspiring debutants and horses with masses to find.

This looks an outstanding opportunity for Jeddaal to open his account at the sixth time of asking. If he doesn't, it'll be the last time he sees my money.
