The big race at Leopardstown is a 16-runner handicap chase over just shy of two-and-three-quarter miles and it's a Betfred Extra Place Race ensuring there are FIVE PLACES to play for.
GORGEOUS TOM looks a ready-made contender for the Henry de Bromhead and Darragh O'Keefe alliance.
O'Keefe has inherited the top role at de Bromhead's Knockeen yard this season following Rachael Blackmore's retirement and he's making the most of his spot.
Only Jack Kennedy has ridden more winners in Ireland this season and while it's likely going to be a bridge too far to catch up with Gordon Elliott's number one, O'Keefe can be more than pleased with his efforts to this point.
Gorgeous Tom is a dual winner over fences after eight starts in this discipline. He won as a novice at Wexford (2m3½f, good to yielding) in August 2024 and struck again in Grade 3 company a couple of months later.
He ran well in the Grade 1 Brown Advisory Novices' Chase at last year's Cheltenham Festival, finishing fourth behind Lecky Watson and began this season with a good second to Firefox in the Grade 2 Kildress Plumbing Chase at Down Royal (2m3½f, good to yielding) in November.
From there it was onto Newbury for the Coral Gold Cup where he ran fourth of 24 upped to 3m2f behind Panic Attack off a mark of 151.
The winner defied an 8lb rise to follow up over the same course and distance in January and is being touted for Cheltenham success in either the Ryanair or the Mares' Chase.
Gorgeous Tom lines out here off a reduced rating of 149, 2lb lower than for that ultra-competitive Newbury contest 93 days ago.
The short break should suit, he goes well fresh, and he has enough form in the book to believe that dropping back to this intermediate trip isn't a concern.
It has been a low-key season for De Bromhead by his standards, but it shouldn't come as a surprise to find his team hitting top gear with the spring festivals now looming large.
