Nap of the Day: Back a Rosy Affair in Pontefract

After another cracking day of Flat racing on Saturday afternoon, there’s more Pattern action to come on the level in Britain on Sunday with meetings from Pontefract and Southwell. We head to Yorkshire for our Nap of the Day, and it comes in the feature contest on the card, the Flying Fillies Listed contest at 15:42.
Our Nap looks certain to appreciate the quick ground she’s going to encounter at Pontefract on Sunday, and she has untapped potential stepping back up in trip to a stiff six furlongs.
Nap Of The Day - Sunday, August 17
- 15:42 Pontefract - Rosy Affair @ 4/1
Pontefract’s feature race on Sunday doesn’t look like the strongest Listed race around, even for a race that is confined to fillies and mares, and one who looks capable of taking advantage is Rosy Affair for George Boughey.
This daughter of Havana Grey looked highly progressive last season, winning back-to-back handicaps before a string of narrow defeats towards the end of the campaign. However, it’s her form in defeat this season that makes her of interest here.
She was only beaten half a length despite racing too keenly on her reappearance outing on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket, a race she probably would have won if settling better in the early stages, and she’s not been beaten far in two Listed races subsequently.
The form behind Washington Heights and Jm Jungle at York last time out looks particularly strong, with Jm Jungle going on to Group success at Glorious Goodwood a couple of weeks ago.
She’s given the impression in both of those Listed runs that she will relish the return to six furlongs and, if she finds any sort of improvement, she could be a tough nut to crack.
Quick ground is also in this filly’s favour, and while the wide draw in stall 11 is one negative for this progressive four-year-old, she’s versatile with regards to tactics and can drop in if there’s plenty of pace on, rather than vie for the lead.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
