Nap of the Day: Ed’s got a talking horse with plenty to say

Good to be back on the Nap Of The Day trail. For Saturday's best bet I'm off to Haydock Park, and their Listed race for fillies and mares, the Dick Hern Stakes.
We're commemorating a giant of the training game in Dick, responsible for so many household-name flyers down the years like Brigadier Gerrard, Nashwan, Troy, Bustino and Dayjur; to name but a handful.
Nap Of The Day - Saturday, August 9
- 14:25 Haydock - Never Let Go @ 9/2
14:25 Haydock - Never Let Go @ 9/2
Super race for a nice pot of around £36k, and this Listed heat has attracted a fine-looking field.
Our selection is Never Let Go, a three-year-old No Nay Never filly out of a Tamayuz mare. Her sire won the Breeders' Cup sprint at this age so she's certainly bred to go a bit.
Six career starts have thus far yielded two wins, including importantly when last seen, at the royal meeting, when taking the 25-runner 1m Sandringham by a length at 22/1.
Jockey Kieran Shoemark was aboard that day for the first time, and the partnership is retained this afternoon. She's trained by Ed Walker in Upper Lambourn and has a bit to find on official ratings with several of her rivals.
However - the manner of the victory was impressive in Berkshire, and importantly was achieved with a big personal best. Being so lightly-raced there could and should be further improvement to come, and especially when stepping up in grade to meet a better level of opponent.
The second at Ascot, Cajole, was subsequently beaten 2l in a Group 3 and the third dead-heated for first in another G3 at Goodwood recently.
The form looks rock-solid and she can take another step towards Group company herself by taking this Listed mile contest in the north-west, for owners the Rockcliffe Stud. And just to add - what a fascinating field this is.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
