Nap of the Day: Our Crown slipped – time to get it back at Goodwood

Just when you think the game's in the palm of your hand, said hand gets rudely savaged by the Fates and it's back to square one. Time to man up and look happy. Yesterday's hat-trick of winning naps bid was sunk unceremoniously at Newmarket, and I'm afraid the hapless rascal, so regal on his last run, had an evening to forget. Had plenty of those ...
Right - we go again and all that jazz, with a Goodwood heat from that fabulous meeting's last day. We've had a great week, and this could top it off beautifully.
Nap Of The Day - Saturday, August 2
13:20 Goodwood - Arabian Crown @ 7/2
13:20 Goodwood - Arabian Crown @ 7/2
This is a 12f Group 3 contest worth around £56k to the winner, and I'm taking a chance that ease in the ground will enable Arabian Crown to return to something like his best.
The four year-old Dubawi gelding, out of a Dubai Destination mare, warmed up for this in a G2 at HQ 23 days ago, finishing 3.75l off the winner under James Doyle. Will Buick takes over in the saddle today and one hopes Charlie Appleby has the Godolphin inmate primed and ready to take down Al Aasy and rivals this afternoon.
The ground is likely to be good-to-soft, we're informed. Arabian Crown has won a G3 on such ground, another G3 on soft, plus a maiden, too. He's yet to win at a mile-and-a-half but this one could be tactical, with likely favourite Al Aasy certainly invariably held up.
I wonder if Will might look to make all - the horse has done so before, and that tactical versatility could come in very handy. The selection is four from eight lifetime, and is due a performance.
Fingers crossed that we get one on Saturday in the grand manner of an Appleby/Buick big-race takedown, and that we can resume winning ways. He's entered in the Irish Leger, and connections I'm sure hold him in great esteem.
Be a great way to end Goodwood week, which has been stellar. Even had a monsoon. Who'd have thought it?
Odds correct at time of publishing.
