Nap of the Day: Bottomless ground good news for Stormie Outlook

It is a busy day of racing in Britain and Ireland on Monday September 22 and Flat racing holds sway with five meetings on the level.

Day two of Listowel’s Harvest Festival is where our nap comes from and with a deluge of rain in Ireland on Friday night and Saturday morning, expect conditions to be very testing for the first few days of the meeting. Read on for our Nap of the Day for Monday.

The going is always a major factor when considering selections, but it’s particularly important at Listowel where it can get very testing when there’s been significant rainfall and soft/heavy ground specialists who are proven at the trip often come to the fore.

It is also important to find speed horses at Listowel where it often pays to be positioned on the front end with the sharp nature of the track making it difficult to make up ground from the rear.

One horse that likes to make the running and handles plenty of ease in the ground is Stormie Outlook. Her two wins have both come on good ground but she has produced some even better performances in defeat in slower conditions, including a placed effort at last year’s Galway Festival, while her penultimate outing was also a big run when hitting the crossbar at Roscommon.

The mare has joined a new yard subsequently and new trainer, Andrew Slattery, often does well with the recruits he picks up from other yards so having been freshened up with a two-month break, expect Stormie Outlook to be ready to fire first time out for her new connections.

It is also worth noting that her only previous outing at the Listowel Festival was a promising one when she finished a close up fourth while there is the chance of an uncontested lead from a handy draw in stall four.
