Lucky 15 Tips: Cornish memories to the fore at Market Rasen

Two winners yesterday and a big-price second, so we're there and thereabouts. Midweek has been reached and there's a lovely National Hunt fixture at Market Rasen on Wednesday that has the likes of Sean Bowen, Harry Cobden and Harry Skelton doing their thing - so I'm sold. Book me in.

12:20 - Quaviste @ 5/2

Team Skelton are winning everything bar I'm A Celebrity at present and one day, who knows? They field Quaviste in this modest little novice, and after a sighter for the season at Stratford 27 days ago the five-year-old gelding by Derby winner Authorized no less could be nicely primed for this one.

He won his bumper in February, beating an Olly Murphy-trained inmate that's since scored twice, and the sixth home that day went in at Warwick three weeks ago.

This won't take a stack of winning and there's definite ability there in my view. As for the Skelton operation - well, they're among the best in the sport, no question.

12:50 - After Many Days @ 4/1

Henry Daly has been in the game a long time and for me he's synonymous with staying types over a decent distance of ground, with a bit of juice in the deck.

He saddles a six-year-old Getaway mare here going 2m 4.5f on predicted good-to-soft, so we've a few boxes ticked - and After Many Days also has the considerable bonus of having Sam Twiston-Davies up top.

She's yet to win in her 14 starts, but there were encouraging signs last time at Hereford off a mark of 83 (beaten 2.75l into second) that her turn could be close at hand.

She's been rated as high as 99 and off today's revised 85, accounting for that last promising and meritorious effort, she can break her duck.

13:20 - Lelant @ 6/4

I'm assuming this seven-year-old Soldier Of Fortune gelding takes his name in honour of the beyond-beautiful Cornish village that nestles in-between Hayle and Carbis Bay, with St Ives just a few miles up the coast.

Breathtaking, glorious, and I've been fortunate enough to have spent quite a bit of time in the area with some awesome company - special days indeed. Our selection is trained by Evan Williams, who had a winner at Hereford yesterday and one at Ludlow the day before, so he's ticking along nicely.

Against this backdrop he's booked the sensational Sean Bowen to ride Lelant today, and I couldn't think of a more positive sign, frankly.

Last time out 44 days ago was a special one, a first career win in 20 starts all told, in a similar affair at Hereford off a mark of 80. Sean must galvanise him to overcome an 8lb hike today but as he's been rated as high as 106 in the past, for me that's no kind of forlorn task.

14:55 - Seasmoke @ 5/2

Towcester trainer Billy Aprahamian saddles a seven-year-old Flemensfirth mare here by the name of Seasmoke.

She's made a good start to her chasing career (fourth, beaten 4.25l at Stratford 27 days ago), after scoring once in nine runs over hurdles, rated around the 90 mark. That rating over timber is respectable in a contest that isn't the most daunting being run today, and the booking of Gavin Sheehan is a big plus.

James Bowen rode her on many occasions in the past so evidently she's well regarded by connections, and off 91 today is just a pound higher than for that promising introduction to life over fences.

If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £212 for a £7.50 total stake.
