Lucky 15 Tips: Midweek march to Catterick should be fun

Wednesday's Lucky 15 tips are coming from Catterick, and their six-race card that kicks in at 14:07.

14:07 Catterick - Macau @ 10/3

A two-year-old maiden, over 7f.

Experience is thin on the ground and one of the more well-versed of these youngsters is our selection Macau.

Two runs so far for this Archie Watson-trained juvenile by Cotai Glory out of a Mehmas mare. Macau has finished close-up at both Wolverhampton on debut and at Newbury when last seen 13 days ago, going under by just 3l in a field of 18.

Both races were over 6f, and he gets another 220 yards here which around a bend shouldn't pose too many problems.

The gelding ran green understandably in Berkshire and the outing should stand him in very good stead here, having grappled with a big field at a grade 1 track like Newbury. Andrew Mullen rides, for the first time.

14:37 Catterick - Hamdani Mokhater @ 2/1

Class 5 nursery handicap over 7f, for two-year-olds.

Jockey Ray Dawson has been in good form of late and he's aboard another with big chances here in the shape of Hamdani Mokhater.

The Mohaather gelding had the dreaded 'op' after an initial three pretty ordinary outings and in one subsequent run, his last eight days ago, showed a much better level when failing by less than a length in a Leicester handicap at a slightly lower grade.

Trainer James Horton is also in good nick right now (winner at Redcar on Sunday), and being drawn in the one box offers that opportunity to potentially whizz out, grab the rail and make life tricky for the chasers.

15:10 Catterick - Vega Storm @ 9/2

Once again we're going 7f, this time in a Class 6 handicap for three-year-olds and upwards.

We're with the Musley Bank duo of Richard & Peter Fahey, and their three-year-old Lucky Vega gelding Vega Storm. 

No wins in five starts so far, but last time on this very track 14 days ago he came mighty close, 1.75l adrift in a slightly better race, finishing well.

Warren Fentiman claims 3lb, as he did last time, and the combination of being in-form and a slight class-dropper makes him a very interesting proposition today.

16:12 Catterick - Hibernate @ 11/4

A 12f Class 4 handicap now, for three-year-olds and upwards.

Small field, but hard to rule anyone out. My fancy Hibernate is a horse who has three wins from 19 starts so far, but interestingly two of which have been achieved over the last few months.

Some good career-high displays then of late, including last time 20 days ago at Yarmouth, beaten a short-head in a slightly lower grade at around this trip.

Ed Dunlop trains, and the brilliant Danny Tudhope has the riding assignment. Race of the day for me and perhaps a little prize that's heading south-east, around 200 miles away, to Newmarket.
