Lucky 15 Tips: The fire’s still burning brightly at Southwell

Hands up everyone who tipped up/backed Apollo One on Saturday? It's a tough old game sometimes, eh? Undaunted, we're in fine fettle as we commence the week's selections, starting with an eight-race all-weather card on Southwell's Tapeta surface on Tuesday.

Here then are our Lucky 15 tips - and as always, whether you're playing or not - have fun!

18:30 - Addarella @ 6/1

Marco Botti trains and David Egan rides this three-year-old Earthlight filly in a Class 5 sprint handicap, over 6f.

Our selection Addarella is still looking for win number one on what will be her eighth racecourse appearance. Last time out, here, she was beaten only a length by After Love (who re-opposes this evening), and that rival is penalised 6lb.

Plenty of cause for optimism then that revenge can be ours on the revised terms, and this consistent type deserves to get her head in front after recent second and third-placed finishes.

19:30 - Universal Story @ 6/4

Trainer Jennie Candlish has been in grand form (21% strike-rate over the last fortnight), and saddles Universal Story here, to be ridden by George Wood (the trio obliged here eight days ago by a comfortable 2.25l over just in excess of a couple of furlongs further).

The four-year-old Sea The Stars filly goes for the hat-trick after winning previously at Newcastle too, and has suddenly become very progressive for doubtless delighted connections.

Jennie has only had the horse since early last month (shipped in from James Horton) and the Staffordshire air is obviously working its magic! While in such fabulous form let's see if she can defy the 5lb hike.

20:00 - Mr Nugget @ 3/1

An 11f basement handicap now, for horses aged four and above.

Mr Nugget is a gelded four-year-old course-and-distance scorer by July Cup and Nunthorpe hero Oasis Dream. Fortunately there's plenty of stamina on the dam's side, as she's by a Belmont winner (12f), Empire Maker.

Lots to like then, trained by Dave Simcock, and ridden by David Egan - owner Amo Racing's main man in the saddle. He was running on late at Wolves last time, and a return to this track that I feel always places extra emphasis on staying power, can suit just nicely.

He's slipped to a tempting-looking mark of 58 and allied to course familiarity it all makes for a plausible winning case.

20:30 - Fire Eyes @ 2/1

This seven-year-old Toronado mare is three-from-23 all told, and has just joined Roger Fell from Lawrence Mullaney. Fire Eyes actually began life with George Boughey but didn't stay long, back in the summer of 2021.

Looks of late to have found her level - wins off 50, then last time (comfortably) for her new trainer off 53, confirming that fact for a horse once rated as high as 78.

She goes a mile tonight but does get a bit further, and goes well here, too. Bright prospects then, even allowing for the perfectly understandable 6lb hike.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
