15:00 - Ashen @ 11/4

The deadly duo - trainer Jim Goldie and jockey Paul Mulrennan - combine with this four-year-old Phoenix Of Spain gelding in a 7f basement handicap.

Ashen is a class-dropper, having contested predominantly Class 5 and last time a Class 4 in his recent spins, and he's been on the premises on several occasions (third beaten 3.5l last time at Musselburgh, nine days ago).

So, he's in lowly Class 6 company now, had had a couple of sighters since returning for the turf campaign, and the engagement of Paul is highly significant in my book. Operates off 63, same as last time in Scotland, and seems versatile at around either seven or eight furlongs.

16:00 - Eve's Boy @ 10/3

Here's another top team you ignore at your peril - jockey Connor Beasley and trainer Michael Dods.

They are responsible for Eve's Boy, a four-year-old Expert Eye gelding who has one win from his 16 starts to date.

This is a Class 5 handicap over a mile, and at Thirsk 25 days ago at this trip/grade was an excellent second, beaten 1l, to Harswell Ruby.

He was just reeled in late in the piece, and with that run under his belt (the first since early February) he can oblige here for a yard that had a winner at Hamilton on Sunday and also one at Thirsk on Saturday.

16:30 - The Gay Blade @ 1/1

Basement 6f handicap sprint, for older horses.

First observation - this does not look like a very warm contest. Our selection is creeping up the weights given some consistent, admirable efforts over the last three or four months but I'd still rather side with the seven-year-old gelding The Gay Blade given that at least we know he's in form, such a bonus in any race but especially among the less exalted talents.

Iain Jardine trains about 70-odd miles away and Cara Tuke takes the ride, claiming 7lb, having won on the horse two spins ago at Newcastle. Seems to cope nicely with either this trip or a furlong longer, and knowing he stays that little bit further is another big plus.

17:00 - Tupero @ 2/1

Time for another tried and tested twosome, in trainer David O'Meara and jockey Danny Tudhope. Danny's been on board Tupero the last twice, and at 12f has run highly respectably to be second and fourth.

Connections are now stretching the four-year-old Frankel gelding out to 1m 7f, hoping it can unlock a bit of improvement. His mark of 60 is unchanged from the last day, a week ago at Southwell, and he'll need to find that wee bit extra as he's up a smidge into Class 5 company this afternoon for his powerful North Yorkshire yard.

This is another heat that doesn't look as if it will take a great deal of winning, and victory number two could well be forthcoming on the horse's eighth racetrack appearance.

If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £140 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
