Lucky 15 Tips: Nine to savour at Newcastle on Thursday

There's a NINE-race card at Newcastle on Thursday, a late afternoon/early evening affair on the Tapeta all-weather. Billy Loughnane has five good-looking booked rides and it would be no surprise whatsoever to see him among the winners.
If you're playing, have a cracking evening.
Lucky 15 Tips - Thursday, October 9
Newcastle
*Odds correct as of the time of publication
16:20 - Edwardtheninth @ 10/3
Four weeks ago this gelded four-year-old son of Bated Breath nearly won one of these at this very venue (beaten half-a-length), on his first outing for North Yorkshire trainer Ruth Jefferson.
Edwardtheninth arrived from Marcus Tregoning's Hampshire yard in early September and just a few days later produced that career-best.
At shorter trips than this two-miles-and-change he'd certainly not set any records in his five spins since debuting in a 10f Sandown maiden for previous connections (June 2024), and has seemingly appreciated both the change of scenery and the step up to just in excess of 2m.
It was over 7l back to the third-placed horse in that last heat and any kind of repeat will surely see him being very hard to beat tonight.
16:55 - La Cadalora @ 9/2
Big weight to carry - 10st 1lb - but not too much to give away, as they all carry at least 9st 4lb or more (two rivals have 9st 10lb).
La Cadalora runs in the famous colours now attributed to Mrs Swinburn; formerly those of Peter Harris. The four-year-old daughter of Nathaniel is still searching for that first success after seven runs, but the last four have been much-improved and highly competitive.
Eight days ago she failed by just a short-head to score in a Kempton maiden and prior to that went close in handicaps at Newbury, Doncaster and Haydock - proper Grade 1 tracks.
She runs off 70 here, which looks a very fair mark given her recent exploits, and she's in the capable hands of HQ handler James Fanshawe. Billy the Kid - young prodigy Mr Loughnane - has the riding assignment (he was on board last time). My idea of the best bet on the card.
18:00 - Zoiros @ 6/5
Not much in the prize-pot for this one but a very decent-looking maiden nevertheless with some promising types in opposition.
Our selection Zoiros is the most experienced juvenile in the field, having run on four occasions. He's owned by Amo Racing, and after starting life with Raphael E Freire is now housed at Kevin Philippart De Foy's Induna yard at HQ.
The gelded son of Sioux Nation has consistently produced creditable efforts and last time at this 6f trip at Thirsk 33 days ago was second of 16, beaten 2l. That winner is a Balding filly, now rated 80.
I fear Shadwell's Shahik, for George Boughey and Billy Loughnane (two runs to date, the last of which was respectable), but experience might just carry the day for Zoiros and the owner's retained jock David Egan.
19:30 - Ticktyboo @ 4/1
Our last leg is a basement handicap over 6f for three-year-olds and upwards.
Nigel Tinkler's Ticktyboo is a four-year-old gelding by Showcasing out of a Paco Boy mare. He's won once in 19 starts, in an August 2024 Chepstow maiden.
He began handicap life prior to that off a mark of 74, and is running off 59 today. He's surely going to hose up one of these days at this lowly level and I'm hoping it will be on Thursday.
Two weeks ago he ran in one of these, here in the North-East, and was beaten just a length under today's 3lb claimer Alex Jary. The horse recorded his best Racing Post rating since that maiden success 14 months ago and another trip to the winners' circle is long overdue.
Very canny, experienced trainer, especially of sprinters, and although not exactly floodgates material the yard have had three winners in the last fortnight.
This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £330 for your total £7.50 stake.
