Lucky 15 Tips: It has to be Newmarket on Betfred 2000 Guineas day!

We've got the Newmarket telly races nicely covered in our ITV piece, but on such a huge Betfred day I want to be there at HQ for our Lucky 15 tips - so using the 2000 Guineas as our anchor, I'm looking at three other contests on the card that are NOT on terrestrial TV to all come together and formulate our L15.

Make sense? I hope so! Enjoy the second day of the Betfred Guineas Festival, and the season's first Classic - the Betfred 2000 Guineas. Several good winners this week at Punchestown and yesterday at Newmarket, so we're in very reasonable nick - famous last words!

15:35 - Distant Storm @ 9/2

16:10 - Naval Light @ 9/1

This three-year-old gelded son of Havana Grey (lots of his progeny seem to be in action this afternoon) is trained by the superb Karl Burke in North Yorkshire, and will be ridden by stable jockey Cliff Lee.

Naval Light runs in the colours of Wathnan Racing, and is looking for a first success after five spins so far. He's making his 6f handicap debut today off 85, after being pretty highly tried so far.

He might be slightly better than this either now or certainly in time, and I think at the price available as I write he represents smashing value. He was only 5.75l behind Charles Darwin in the 5f G2 Norfolk at the Royal meeting last term, and his owners love little better than to snaffle nice prizes at the festival meetings.

16:45 - Daiquiri Bay @ 5/1

12f top-drawer (ish) handicap now, and a tried and tested combo of trainer Alan King and jockey Rossa Ryan.

Daiquiri Bay is a four-year-old New Bay gelding, with one win so far from eight starts. When last seen in October over course-and-distance he was a close-up third beaten less than a length chasing a £52k payday off 94, and he's up 2lb this afternoon.

'Kingy' has been in terrific form of late with three winners from his last 13 runners, and it's not hard to see his charge right in the thick of this one.

17:20 - Sierra Sands @ 10/3

Time now for Ryan Moore, teaming up with trainer Ed Dunlop, and a three-year-old Sands Of Mali colt - Sierra Sands.

Four runs so far have yielded one win, a Catterick maiden over 7f. There was welcome evidence that he's trained on nicely on seasonal reappearance here, 18 days ago, finishing just a length adrift of Startled under Moore, and he's able to race off the same mark, 79, this afternoon.

Good to see Ryan maintaining the partnership and though open-looking, he's surely one of the more likely scorers.
