Lucky 15 Tips: There’s more to come from Heads Or Harps at Ayr

Britain provides all the racing action on Monday and we have four meetings on the schedule. Ayr and Plumpton provide the National Hunt action, while Kempton and Wolverhampton host a couple of all-weather fixtures and there’s some Listed action at the former.

We have four selections for you to consider across the afternoon on Monday and they can be combined to create a Lucky 15. Our four fancies include a very lightly raced runner for Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore, who looks fully unexposed. Below you can find my Lucky 15 Tips.

13:35 Plumpton – Cueros @ 13/8

It could be a big season for Harry Derham and he has some smart novice hurdlers in his yard at the moment. CUEROS won eight times on the Flat in France and Jersey for previous connections and made the perfect start to life over hurdles at Newcastle last month.

He was fairly worked up before the race but that made no difference to his performance and he kept on really well to score by 14 lengths, despite losing his position briefly on the turn for home. There was lots to like about that performance and he saw out the trip well.

Patrick Mullins was on board at Wetherby next time and he ran a nice race to finish second under a penalty given that the winner is well regarded by connections. Derham’s five-year-old is the one to beat on form and a big run should be on the cards once again.

13:45 Ayr – Heads Or Harps @ 2/1

HEADS OR HARPS maybe isn’t the easiest to train as he’s very lightly raced for his age. Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore’s gelding took just three attempts to get off the mark over fences and he was an impressive winner over course and distance in March.

He travelled strongly throughout and jumped noticeably well, particularly at the third-last fence, and pulled clear to score by a wide margin. The handicapper responded with a 12lb rise, which was hard to argue with, and there could be more to come.
Heads Or Harps looked in need of the run when below par at Kelso last time out and should be much sharper this time around.

14:15 Ayr – Forest Blaze @ 9/4

Mark Walford’s FOREST BLAZE has won twice over hurdles previously, off marks of 90 and 95, and he’s now back down to a two-figure mark. His most recent success came at Hexham in March and he won well, despite some sketchy jumping.
He looked nowhere near fit enough on his seasonal debut at Hexham and he weakened quickly on the home turn. It seems likely that the six-year-old will improve significantly for the run and should be much more competitive here if doing so.

14:45 Ayr – Red Cadillac @ 6/4

RED CADILLAC struggled on the whole over hurdles last term but did show some promise when finishing second at Uttoxeter in February and that was easily his best effort. The penny finally dropped at Carlisle on his first start of the season and he managed to get off the mark.

He showed a good attitude to score by a head and the handicapper responded with a 4lb rise, which shouldn’t be too crippling to his chances. Hopefully he can build on that effort and further progress can’t be ruled out.
