Lucky 15 Tips: Fabulous Friday at Newmarket

Tremendous televised (ITV) Friday fare from Newmarket, flat racing HQ, makes our Lucky 15 tips decision, venue-wise, a very easy one indeed.

Action commences on the seven-race card at 13:15, and there are plenty of Group and Listed heats. Enjoy!

13:15 - Arisaig @ 11/2

Listed fillies and mares go a mile, and it looks super-competitive.

Our selection Arisaig hails from the Johnston yard up on Middleham Moor, and is a four-year-old daughter of Harry Angel. Last time out at Goodwood in a G2 no less 33 days ago Arisaig ran Jonquil to less than a length with a career-high display, at the trip.

Any repeat of that in this calmer-looking company puts her bang in the frame, and the brilliant Tom Marquand (who has sat on her before) has been booked to ride. Down in grade, she's got to have an outstanding chance.

What a race to kick off our L15.

14:25 - Zanthos @ 11/4

Fillies again, two-year-olds this time, and a twice-raced daughter of Sioux Nation trained locally by the Crisfords.

Zanthos arrives for start number three after winning a maiden here on debut for today's pilot Oisin Murphy, then disappointingly being beaten at 4/11 in a Leicester novice.

That second spin was so far below the form of her first that I'm hoping it was just one of those things, and a return to HQ will once again show her in an advantageous light.

She's got a couple of fancy G1 entries for later in the autumn and with Murphy in quite ridiculous form I'm hoping we see her very best this afternoon.

Another terrific contest.

15:00 - Opera Ballo @ 4/6

It will be hard to keep the boys in blue out of the winner's circle at this meeting and this could be one for Messrs Appleby, Buick et al.

Their three-year-old Ghaiyyath colt Opera Ballo has a magnificent four-from-five winning record thus far including here last time 78 days ago, dotting up in a Listed heat.

Time now then for a tilt at a G2, and on official marks at least has the measure of his rivals today. One mile looks to be his trip for now but I'm sure connections will feel that given his sire's Eclipse and Juddmonte-winning credentials he'll get further, no problem, if or when required.

Another with a mouth-watering entry - Ascot's G1 QEII, in October.

15:35 - Isle Of Jura @ 3/1

I'm taking a chance on a horse that's not run for the small matter of 461 days - always a bit of a gamble, but if he's straight (the yard's in flying form with a 25% strike-rate over the last 14 days), I think he's different gravy to his rivals today.

Isle Of Jura is a five-year-old New Approach gelding out of a Street Cry mare. He's eight-from-13 career-wise, and when last seen readily dealt with Goliath in a G2 just before that same rival sauntered to a win in the G1 King George, at the same venue.

Red-hot form then, and this is a 'mere' Listed heat don't forget. Trainer George Scott has booked young sensation Billy Loughnane, and connections will be holding their breath that all the old ability remains. Fascinating stuff.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
