Lucky 15 Tips: Limerick Tuesday can prove a turn on

There's a seven-race card in Limerick on Tuesday afternoon that kicks in at 13:10 - an ideal vehicle for our Lucky 15 tips. It's great to be back after a wee break celebrating a landmark birthday, and with the likes of Jack Kennedy and Paul Townend due to be in action it should make for a very entertaining afternoon.

Horse Racing Odds

13:40 - Without Exception @ 9/2

Happy to side here with trainer Philip Rothwell's seven-year-old gelding Without Exception, looking for a second career win at a track where he ran very well just 31 days ago, finishing a 3.75l third of 11 over approximately this same trip.

The selection is up 2lb given that encouraging effort but was claimer-ridden on that occasion, and gets Dylan Robinson up top this afternoon. The advertised heavy ground should be no issue and 11st 5lb isn't a bad racing weight to carry in the context of this field of handicap hurdlers.

14:14 - Likealightswitch @ 9/4

The five-year-old Soldier Of Fortune mare returns again to maiden company after a dip into handicap waters the run before last, seemingly not staying the 2m 4f on that occasion.

Likealightswitch showed that around 2m is surely her trip last time 19 days ago at Clonmel with a fine second of 17, beaten just 1.25l behind one of Henry De Bromhead's. A couple of errors at the last two obstacles didn't help, and 7lb claimer Harry Sexton can make handsome amends this afternoon for trainer/father Adrian.

Nice race, with a JP-owned rival, Saveforarainyday, likely to prove a worthy adversary.

15:59 - Is Charlie Around @ 3/1

Another handicap hurdle, this time at the minimum distance of just short of 2m.

Our selection Is Charlie Around is a seven-year-old chestnut gelding trained by Eamon Courtney, and I understand the horse races in the colours of his wife.

Nice run here 31 days ago when finishing second, beaten 3.5l of 13, in a similar heat off 103. He was claimer-ridden that day and gets regular pilot Ricky Doyle back in the plate this afternoon.

That last excellent effort has prompted a move from the assessor (up 3lb), but it was just about as well as he's ever performed; and a first win in seven career starts, a story that only began rather belatedly in 2024, could be close at hand.

16:33 - Gillane @ 7/4

The last contest is a National Hunt flat race - a bumper - and I'm looking to Navan-based Gavin Cromwell to send us off with a winner.

He's only just acquired the six-year-old Shirocco gelding Gillane, but the selection ran well enough when last seen in one of these races at Navan in December, beaten 6.5l into second, interestingly ridden by the mighty Patrick Mullins.

The winner that day is entered up in a Leopardstown G2 at the weekend and the transfer from Kevin O'Donnell to the powerful Cromwell yard looks significant.

Another top amateur, Declan Lavery, has the leg up.
