Lucky 15 Tips: Sedgefield’s looking good on Thursday

Let's get our midweek (ish) Lucky 15 tips 'fix' from beautiful Sedgefield. Their six-race card kicks in at 14:40, and among the jocks we can look forward to seeing include Cheltenham hero Richie McLernon, excellent claimers Charlie Maggs and Freddie Keighley, Sean Quinlan, and Grand National winner Ryan Mania.

15:10 - Cosmic Soul @ 11/8
A 2m 4f novices' handicap hurdle, and a six-year-old gelded son of the brilliant Derby and Arc winner Sea The Stars - Cosmic Soul.
He's trained in North Yorkshire by Patrick Neville, and covered himself in glory here just nine days ago with victory in a conditional jockey's heat under today's pilot William Maggs.
Given the nature of that contest the horse escapes a penalty and runs off the same mark this afternoon, 88. Delighted to report it was a meaty personal best display last time too, and as long as the extra 3f doesn't pose any problems it's not hard to see him going in again.
16:10 - Dillarchie @ 15/8
Something of a marathon handicap hurdle now, over 3m 3f, and a selection who again knows what it's like to win here - and at this trip.
Dillarchie is a nine-year-old mare by the mighty Sulamani, who I saw lift the Juddmonte at York under Frankie over 20 years ago. Our fancy is four-from-29 all told, and arrives fresh from winning last time out 23 days ago at Catterick off a mark of 85.
That was over couple of furlongs short of today's distance but as we know it holds no terrors - what's rather more salient is the 3lb penalty, but this young lady has been rated as high as 98 around this time two years ago and the Racing Post rating achieved the other day, 90, is right up there with some of her very best.
Joanne Foster trains, about 45 miles away in Menston, and the excellent Sean Quinlan rides. He's in tremendous nick, with six wins from his last 20 rides - Sean Bowen territory!
16:40 - Siege Of Acres @ 9/4
One of these meetings just wouldn't be the same without a Don McCain-trained horse in the familiar yellow and blue of owner TG Leslie, and we have one here in this 2m 5f handicap chase.
Siege Of Acres is a five-year-old French-bred gelding, emphasising just how forward and precocious such animals can be - mixing it here with seasoned handicappers three of whom are more than twice his age.
Think Kauto Star - but then temper that by remembering not only was he a swift developer, but arguably the best we've seen since Arkle. 'Siege' hasn't quite shown us that kind of level just yet!
This fella has just one run over the larger obstacles to his name, a fine Musselburgh effort in one of these, beaten 6.25l. This isn't a hot contest, his opening mark of 98 remains, and of course we can factor in the Maggs effect, as he reduces that by 3lb.
17:10 - Klitschko @ 7/2
The finale is a 2m 1f Class 4 handicap hurdle, and is probably as open as any on the card. The one that has caught my eye is the eight-year-old Blue Bresil gelding Klitschko, trained about 25 miles away by Lucinda Hughes.
This course-and-distance scorer unseated Brian Hughes last time at Catterick, 38 days ago, but he'd only travelled as far as the fourth obstacle and we've no clue as to what might have happened.
His mark of 109 is unchanged, and he won off 111 here as recently as this time last year. The horse is a former Alan King inmate who joined Lucinda in November 2024, and let's see if he can take a few steps forward, in his prime years.
He's had one dalliance with chasing, in May last year, but it didn't appear to suit. Another hot jock, Danny McMenamin, takes the mount (six winners in his last 22 rides). Every chance, and a nice race with which to close.
If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £150 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
