Lucky 15 Tips: Huntingdon’s the place to be on Thursday

Thursday's Lucky 15 tips are coming via Huntingdon, and their seven-race card that kicks in at 13:06. Sean Bowen and Harry Cobden are doing battle - the two top jocks in the weighing room at present? What's your opinion?

Should be an excellent afternoon's racing, and though there are a few hotpots, it should still be plenty of fun. Two winners and two seconds yesterday - so we're certainly there and thereabouts.

14:51 - Kom Tu Voudras @ 4/5

A 2m 4f maiden hurdle, and a six-year-old mare who's had three highly fruitless outings in the care of a certain WP Mullins ...

Kom Tu Voudras races in the fabled silks of JP McManus, had one run in France (close-up in a bumper), was then sent to Willie (pulled-up when highly-tried in a £50k G1 novices' hurdle, and subsequently never sighted in two maiden hurdles).

Enter trainer number three, Faye Bramley, who took over the horse two weeks ago and who now sends her out for this. It's going to be something of a fact-finding mission as 'Kom' hasn't run since November, and bar that initial promise on debut hasn't shown much since.

However - thank goodness there's a however - that first outing undoubtedly hinted at ability, the celebrated owner remains in place, and Faye is developing a reputation for galvanising inmates who look to have lost their way somewhat.

She had a winner the other day in a Fakenham hunter ridden by Patrick Mullins no less, Stattler, and this opposition could hardly be softer-looking.

15:26 - Postponed Legacy @ 11/10

2m handicap hurdlers now, and another likely to be near the head of the market.

Postponed Legacy is a five-year-old gelding by Postponed, a very fine Juddmonte winner a decade ago for Roger Varian. The selection is owned and trained by Martin Keighley, about 18 miles from Cheltenham.

He's two-from-13 all time, both those wins coming over hurdles after just the one debut spin on the flat at Windsor in April 2024. He's in great form too - both those successes have come in his last three starts and probably his best effort to date was last time out, at Wincanton, coming second beaten 3l trying to defy a 10lb hike.

Jockey James Best gets along with him famously and though the assessor has nudged him up another pound I'm very hopeful that's he's in better nick than today's rivals.

16:01 - After Many Days @ 15/8

Henry Daly is a trainer whose horses tend to thrive at around this soggy time of the year. Staying types that appreciate a bit of cut, which looks assured today.

Therefore his After Many Days certainly appeals, even if this is 'only' a 2m 3.5f handicap hurdle and not a 3m chase for example. Sam Twiston-Davies has the riding assignment, and he's ridden the seven-year-old Getaway mare previously.

No wins yet from 14 starts but a fine effort last time, 30 days ago at Leicester, finishing second beaten 3l to one that very nearly defied a 5lb penalty next time out (beaten less than a length).

Sam takes over in the saddle from a conditional and could be just the man to help register that first elusive success.

16:36 - Thruthelookinglass @ 6/4

Time for the lucky last, and our pick is a nine-year-old staying handicap chaser who once again is searching for that vital first victory!

Plenty of incentive then for Kim Bailey & Matt Nicholls' Thruthelookinglass, by Ascot Gold Cup and Irish St Leger winner Kayf Tara. When last seen at Lingfield in this kind of deep ground, 31 days ago, he finished half-a-length adrift and it was 17l back to the third.

Tom Bellamy was on board then and retains the partnership this afternoon. It's not the deepest of contests and I'll be disappointed if he's not good enough.

Now admittedly the potential reward isn't remotely stratospheric even if they all whizz in, but if they did by chance do exactly that it would still be a nice little bet. It's one of those days when the shorties look as if they might dominate - famous last words!
