Lucky 15 Tips: Super Saturday at Southwell

Our ITV piece has the cream of the day's jumping nicely covered, concentrating on seven races combined from Uttoxeter and Kempton. For Saturday's Lucky 15 tips then let's visit Southwell, and their early evening all-weather gathering on the flat that boasts the likes of Rossa Ryan and Billy Loughnane among the jocks taking part.
The seven-race card kicks in at 17:30, and after all the thrills of Cheltenham, and further jumping gems this afternoon including the Midlands National, it's no hardship to admire the flat boys and girls as we start to think about spring - and the National, Lincoln, the Dante, Newmarket's Guineas Festival, Chester, and so on. What a fabulous prospect.

18:30 - Mount Ruapehu @ 9/2
Fairly experienced sprinters go 6f in this Class 6 contest.
Our pick is the six-year-old Invincible Spirit gelding Mount Ruapehu, which I'm reliably informed is the largest active volcano in New Zealand. Cue lots of appropriately explosive puns.
The selection is trained by Iain Jardine in Dumfries & Galloway, and will be ridden by Andrew Mullen. The yard have only just acquired the horse from Ireland (last month) and on its solitary start so far for new connections came a hugely respectable fourth of 10 beaten 3.25l at Newcastle over 5f.
He was running on there, and as he gets further today's 6f could be absolutely spot on. Ordinary little basement contest, and could be a nice opportunity for a first UK success.
19:30 - Penny Time @ 15/8
A one-mile novice, for three-year-olds.
Wathnan Racing's main man James Doyle has just this one ride on his dance card for tonight; a Mehmas colt trained by Hugo Palmer. Penny Time has had one rather controversial start, passing the post first at Kempton in one of these heats but then being disqualified for weighing in with the incorrect weight.
That confirmed his ability, but given the trainer and the horse's breeding I'd rather have expected that anyway. Cracking opportunity.
20:00 - Don Simon @ 6/5
The aforementioned Rossa Ryan has two booked rides tonight, and one of them is this, for trainer Ed Dunlop.
Seasoned handicappers go just over 2m in this Class 4 handicap, and our hope Don Simon is seeking a first career success after nine previous attempts at distances varying from a mile to 1m 6f.
'Don' steps up then in trip, and the five-year-old gelding by the great Sea The Stars hinted certainly last time at Wolverhampton, 15 days ago, that it was well worth chancing.
He might not have scored yet but has run some very solid races in defeat including here; and off this mark of 77 he very nearly won twice at around this time last year, with two close seconds at Newcastle, and Chelmsford.
Rossa knows him from two previous engagements, including one of those narrow reverses, and he can help break the horse's duck tonight.
20:30 - Sports Coach @ 11/4
The lucky last is a 5f Class 4 sprint for experienced campaigners, and I'm with a five-year-old gelding by a G3-winning speedster out of a Dandy Man mare - bred to go a bit, and then some.
Sports Coach produced his best-ever performance last time out, in one of these heats over course-and-distance, beaten just half a length in a field of 11.
North Yorkshire trainer Antony Brittain has had a couple of winners in recent days, including here, and regular pilot Cam Hardie has the riding assignment. Two wins from 11 so far, and he's knocking loudly on the door of number three at the minute.
He's a former Karl Burke inmate, and compensation for that cracking effort could well be forthcoming. Yet to win for Antony - a stat that's long overdue a remedy.
If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £190 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
