Lucky 15 Tips: Excellence in Essex from Chelmsford on Thursday

With the rain showing little sign of abating, I'm staying with the all-weather flat scene for our Lucky 15 tips. Hopefully there's more certainty of action as a consequence, fingers crossed, so we're off to Chelmsford's Polytrack gathering on Thursday and seven races that kick in at 16:55.
Some nice yards are represented and it's sure to be a cracking early evening in Essex.
Lucky 15 tips - Thursday, February 12
Chelmsford
*Odds correct as of the time of publication
18:00 - Dyrholaey @ 7/4
Our first L15 element appears in a 6f Class 4 handicap, and is a course-and-distance scorer.
Archie Watson, among the winners in recent days, trains and Arc winner Luke Morris has the riding assignment. Dyrholaey is a five-year-old French-bred gelding with an impressive four-from-11 record to date.
His last winning mark was 87, at Southwell at this trip in November, and appeals greatly off 84 this evening, same figure as when last seen at Wolves 9 days ago - beaten just half-a-length under Hollie Doyle.
All this points towards another very competitive performance today, and a terrific winning chance.
18:30 - Carlton @ 5/2
1m 6f stayers now, and a six-year-old Frankel gelding with eight previous wins from 43 careers starts.
Carlton ran here four weeks ago at around this distance and failed by just a short-head against a Roger Varian inmate. It was 4l back to the third and once again this looks like a case of a horse who is ready to win, even though sadly but understandably he's up 3lb for that last cracking effort to a career-high mark on the flat of 78.
A crucial factor is the booking of 5lb claimer Ashley Lewis, to help offset the rise, and HQ trainer James Owen has reached out to him before. He's yet to score so far this calendar year but has registered a couple of places from a total of just eight rides to date.
For me this represents a very good chance of getting the ball rolling for 2026.
19:00 - Tamashal @ 7/2
Powerful connections here - the Wiltshire yard of Richard Hannon, and a three-year-old son of Irish 2000 Guineas winner Phoenix Of Spain.
Tamashal is yet to appear on the racecourse and debuts in this 7f novice under the excellent Sean Levey. The dam is by the high-class G1 scorer Tamayuz and he stands out to me as one who on breeding, and training address, would demand the closest of attention.
Some nice yards oppose and they will be hoping they've got a talented one or an improver on their hands. Virtually all have either no experience thus far or very little.
The Hannon team had a couple of winners at the end of January and he's gone pretty close too in recent days. This will be very informative and fingers crossed for a cracking heat.
19:30 - Crimson Rambler @ 2/1
A low-end 7f handicap, and a three-year-old Bated Breath gelding looking for a first success after five outings in public.
Crimson Rambler is housed with George Scott at Newmarket, and will be ridden by the outstanding Callum Shepherd. George is in great nick (27% strike-rate in the last 14 days), and Callum's even warmer at 29%.
The selection last appeared 10 days ago at Wolves, stepping up to this 7f trip from 5 and 6f, running on to such great effect that he was just a neck down at the finish.
Importantly, the horse runs off the same mark, 52, and Callum was on board for that near-miss too. His case therefore is compelling, and rates the nap on the card for me.
If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £185 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
