Lucky 15 Tips: Gav to continue fine run at Carlisle on Tuesday

Monday 2nd February 2026, 18:11pm

Some very interesting action between the puddles and monsoons in recent days, with you-know-where firmly in mind, come March. Anyway, there's a good-looking Carlisle card on Tuesday that demands our attention, and looks absolutely ideal in terms of our Lucky 15 tips.

Gavin Sheehan, Brendan Powell, Brian Hughes, Jonjo Jr - some of our very best jocks are present too; as is James Bowen, for what looks like just the one booked ride, an Olly Murphy bumper horse in the lucky last. Verrrrryyyy interesting indeed!

13:30 - It's Top @ 6/5

Gavin Sheehan is a frequent visitor to the top step of the podium, as with Kempton yesterday and Market Rasen the day before. He can continue his excellent form aboard It's Top, for Lambourn handler Oliver Signy.

The six-year-old It's Gino gelding reappeared after a break of some 327 days at Newbury 20 days ago, staying on nicely without landing a blow (beaten 13l). Gavin was in the saddle then, as on two previous occasions, and encouragingly retains the partnership.

The selection has only had four starts under rules, underwent a wind procedure last July, and could have a lot more to offer with experience - that last spin was definitely his best, and he was fully entitled to need it after such a long lay-off.

14:00 - First Confession @ 11/8

Dorset trainer Joe Tizzard sends a couple up north with big chances this afternoon, the first of which is his seven-year-old gelding First Confession in this beginners' chase.

The Tizzards are synonymous with brave staying chasers and this one ran well here on debut over fences in November, beaten 10l by a decent type of Ben Pauling's, The Jukebox Kid.

He's not bettered that in three subsequent spins but he's been fairly highly-tried at Kempton, Cheltenham and perhaps slightly less so at Exeter. This is probably far more his cup of tea at this stage and connections might just have found a good opportunity.

He's won two fair Ascot handicap hurdles in the past and it's surely only a matter of time before he clicks in this discipline.

14:35 - Oh Clare @ 5/2

Paul and Clare Rooney own this six-year-old Walk In The Park mare, something of a Carlisle specialist, and bidding for a second win in just five career starts.

Oh Clare won a Lingfield maiden 44 days ago in good style, and connections are now looking to take this novice heat on a course where from three runs she's run extremely well on two of them.

Jonjo Jr rides for Dad Jonjo Snr and brother AJ, and the team had a nice winner up at Musselburgh on Sunday. Smashing race, with some promising types in opposition.

15:05 - Lady In The Park @ 11/4

Lucinda Russell and Mikey Scudamore train this eight-year-old Walk In The Park mare, and two-time Grand National-winning rider Derek Fox has the leg up.

Lady In The Park hasn't run for 285 days but, crucially, goes very well fresh. This is a handicap chase restricted to members of the fairer sex, and she's won one over the larger obstacles from four attempts, that being when last seen in April at Perth off a mark of 108.

She also won one of eight spins over hurdles, and certainly has ability.

The assessor has had their say regarding Perth and she must defy a rise of 7lb, but the yard are having lots of runners of late and had a couple of placed horses two days ago, at Musselburgh. Could be time to strike ...

Just as a by-the-by, that sole James Bowen ride runs in the lucky last  (16:34), and is the four-year-old gelding Jimmy Gatz, son of Dante winner The Great Gatsby, who I saw contest several Juddmonte Internationals too over the years at York. The James Owen runner is trading at around 15/8 as I speak.

I'll be having a little single interest for sure.

If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £114 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
