Lucky 15 Tips: The champ’s got some good-looking chances

Our trips to Southwell usually involve all-weather flat racing on their Tapeta surface, with the likes of Billy Loughnane firing in winners for fun. On Wednesday the turf National Hunt course is in action, so let's gather our midweek Lucky 15 tips from there.

No Billy the Kid perhaps, but how about Sean Bowen? Jonjo O'Neill Jr? Too right ...

15:30 - Queens Charm @ 13/8

Trainer Ben Pauling can be said to be in form - but what about jockey Callum Pritchard? The 3lb claimer is operating at a 37% strike-rate!

The two combine here in a 2m mares' bumper with Queens Charm. The five-year-old daughter of Crystal Ocean (middle-distances, classy, Royal Ascot scorer) makes her rules debut after winning a point back in November.

She's sure to have been well prepared for this and it's not hard to be enthusiastic about her chance.

16:00 - Road To Wembley @ 5/6

Appropriate, given that the FA Cup quarters are this very weekend.

Time to visit the Olly Murphy/Sean Bowen caravan for this 2m maiden hurdle, and their once-raced (over jumps) five-year-old Road To Wembley.

The gelding is by Postponed, who I saw win York's G1 Juddmonte a decade ago, and that prior run I mentioned was a close-up second of ten at Warwick to a previous winner.

Sean was on top that day, and a Henderson inmate was third, giving the race a nice solid look. That was 24 days ago, and this is nap material for me today.

The horse enjoyed four wins on the flat for Richard Hughes before joining Olly in late February, and was a sound enough handicapper, with for example successes under his belt at 1m 6f and even at a smidge over 2m.

16:30 - Passing Pleasure @ 13/8

Another that I fancy strongly - oh no - this time a Class 4 staying handicap hurdle over just in excess of 3m.

The selection is a six-year-old Passing Glance gelding out of a Kayf Tara mare called Passing Pleasure. Two wins from seven starts, the latest just before Christmas off a mark of 100.

He carried his penalty 29 days ago at Newcastle and only failed by a neck behind one of Nicky Richards' that's subsequently gone in again; and it was 16 yawning lengths back to the third.

Charlie Todd, among the winners in recent days, takes the mount for Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero, on the mark at Bangor yesterday.

17:02 - Briery Butterfly @ 11/4

Mares go 3m-and-change in this Class 5 handicap hurdle.

Trainer Henry Daly is someone I've always respected, especially with horses over a trip on testing ground. Loved seeing him put up Richard Johnson on such a conveyance back in the day, often to deadly effect.

Today's ground is predicted to be good, but fortunately his representative Briery Butterfly goes very well on it and has never been asked to tackle anything worse than 'soft.

The seven-year-old daughter of Getaway is still a maiden after 11 runs but her last five efforts have been 43223, indicating that her turn is possibly very close at hand.

The excellent Stan Sheppard has been handed the riding assignment and a deserved first success could be imminent.
