Lucky 15 Tips: Ben Pauling’s gelding can bounce back

Five race meetings are scheduled across the UK and Ireland on Wednesday, so there's something for everyone to look forward to. Having taken a look at the cards on offer I have put together a Lucky 15 for you to consider.

14:40 Carlisle - Sole Spirit @ 7/4

We start off in Carlisle with this Class 5 handicap over 6f. There are seven runners declared for this contest and there are couple with decent claims here. The one who catches my eye is SOLE SPIRIT for Bryan Smart's yard.

The three-year-old gelding has won on his opening two starts of the season at Doncaster and Thirsk - both over this distance. The latter came with a 7lb rise but he still beat a clear second and it's likely that more progress is going to come from him at Carlisle.

He is a strong contender in this contest, representing a yard who have won this race three times since 2016, including last year.

15:00 York - Carmers @ 11/2

Aidan O'Brien's Lambourn may be the favourite for this Class 1 Stakes race over 1m 4f at York on Wednesday, but I am putting my faith in CARMERS for Paddy Twomey's yard.

Undefeated on his first three starts following his debut in May at Ballinrobe, before following up at Navan (both 1m 5f). He then stepped up to 1m 6f at Royal Ascot to complete the hat-trick.

Further improvement is needed from this rising star, but he has handled everything thrown at him so far, and considering he has only raced on three occasions, he has come a long way in a very short amount of time. His price on Wednesday seems excellent value given the circumstances.

16:45 York - Luna A Inbhir Nis @ 15/2

Katie Scott-trained LUNA A INBHIR NIS is gunning for a hat-trick in this Class 2 fillies' handicap over 5f. She won over this distance at Haydock before prevailing here over 5 1/2f on her latest appearance on July 25.

The three-year-old daughter of Rajasinghe has now won five of her past six starts and has recorded six overall this season - with five of them coming over 5f. She continues to improve and a recent setback at York in June seems nothing more than an anomaly following her recent successes.

Jason Hart is on board for this ride, and the pair have combined for victory at Haydock and Ayr in the past.

16:50 Worcester - Rocks Up Late @ 4/1

ROCKS UP LATE pulled up on his last appearance at Market Rasen on July 19, which came as a concern to trainer Ben Pauling and connections. Before that, the five-year-old gelding had enjoyed a perfect start to his career representing this stable, with a hat-trick of victories at Worcester (two C&D) and Fontwell, all of which were over two miles.

It is a question now of if what happened at Market Rasen was just a blip. I'm of that thinking heading into Wednesday as the son of Vadamos was flying before that outing and had been showing signs of continuous improvement.

If he can get back to the winning form previously shown at this track, he will be a big player once again.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
