Lucky 15 Tips: Low numbers are a bonus on the Roodee

So much fantastic racing on Saturday. We've got some of York's gems covered in our ITV piece - same can be said for Newcastle, on Northumberland Plate day. So let's head to the historic Roodee, and Chester's unique contours, for our Lucky 15 tips.
Lucky 15 Tips - Saturday 27 June 2026
- 14:02 Chester - Stardom Glory @ 2/1
- 14:32 Chester - El Nay @ 6/5
- 15:03 Chester - Ruby's Angel @ 4/1
- 15:33 Chester - Magic Basma @ 7/2
*Odds correct as of the time of publication
14:02 Chester - Stardom Glory @ 2/1
We're playing the first four on the card - not a proverbial sea of runners, but some top yards, jocks, and fascinating contests.
This opener is a 6f maiden, and we're siding with a real 24-carat Chester specialist in trainer Hugo Palmer, of Manor House Stables (Michael Owen) fame.
The team prioritise having winners at their local track, and are very successful at doing just that. This Starspangledbanner two-year-old colt has had two spins so far, both at York, and run extremely well each time (two close seconds).
Stardom Glory was tardily away on the first occasion but had learnt well by outing number two and, racing prominently, finished just 2l adrift. The winner's entered in an early closing autumn G1 at the Curragh and for this sprint test Stardom Glory has got the plum draw, in the one box.
David Probert rides, for the first time, and I suspect he's in for a treat.
Yes please ...
14:32 Chester - El Nay @ 6/5
A novice stakes race now, over 7.5f.
One of the quartet appears extremely well-in given the entry circumstances, and that's my selection El Nay.
He's a three-year-old Palace Pier gelding out of a Frankel mare running in the fabled silks of Shadwell Estates. Richard Hannon trains, and Sean Levey has the riding assignment.
The race conditions stipulate that three-year-old colts & geldings will carry 9st 4lb. That takes care of three of the field - the sole filly, Remi Mae, has the prescribed 8st 13lb for members of the fairer sex, but don't forget that these horses have official handicap marks too, though that doesn't in novice stakes races entirely determine what weight will be carried.
From that start point above in this type of contest horses can then be allocated a little more weight if they've won a race, and in this line-up that describes Eagle Bay, who therefore must carry 5lb more (so 9st 9lb).
Eagle Bay is officially rated 80, while our selection El Nay is rated 85. In this novice stakes event Eagle Bay therefore must concede 5lb to us, despite our selection being rated 5lb superior, officially. That's a terrific edge, and low and behold we're in the one box, too.
Form's respectable, can lead, and got a mile last time at Leicester very nicely. If this stays odds-against I'll be doing handsprings. Huge, huge chance.
15:03 Chester - Ruby's Angel @ 4/1
I'm going to the Hugo Palmer well once again, and Ruby's Angel, a three-year-old filly in this 6f sprint handicap. She won here in May at the trip despite being drawn 12, which is quite some feat, and then was very highly tried at York a fortnight ago in a £64k-to-the-winner affair (never involved, beaten 8.5l).
This is much more her cup of Earl Grey, and guess what stall she's drawn this afternoon? Number ONE. The excellent Dave Probert is doing the pushing once again.
15:33 Chester - Magic Basma @ 7/2
I made a case a little earlier for Forty Years On to take this, but I've just discovered that sadly that entry doesn't run.
In its stead I'm plumping for Magic Basma, from the Kevin Ryan yard, Tom Eaves doing the steering. More famous silks on view - those of Jabber Abdullah - and two very narrow defeats in his last two spins indicate that this four-year-old Expert Eye gelding is about to strike; hopefully this afternoon.
If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £210 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
