Thursday 25th December 2025, 7:34am

Greetings - of the seasonal variety! Hope all's going well and that you're enjoying some Christmas-time fun and frivolity. Only one place we can possibly turn to for our Boxing Day Lucky 15 tips and that's Kempton Park, in Sunbury-on-Thames. Action starts at 12:45.

It's King George day; a fabled contest that's been won in the past by horses of the calibre of Arkle, Wayward Lad, Desert Orchid, The Fellow, Kauto Star - there are just too many to name. It's one of the events of the season, and invariably won by a real good 'un.

This great race has been creating legends since 1937. Make room for another on the roster, please ...

12:45 - U Can't Be Serious @ 6/1

Oh yes we are! The mighty Harry Cobden has the riding assignment for Joe Tizzard, the Dorset-based former jockey-turned-trainer that flourished under Dad Colin, and who were (still are) often seen to great effect at the festival meetings.

U Can't Be Serious has scored twice recently since reappearing for the season, both at Exeter, in gutsy fashion. He's an improving six-year-old with a 6lb lift in the handicap to contend with but I love the Cobden engagement and he might just be up to it.

14:30 - Gaelic Warrior @ 11/4

The great Willie Mullins saddles two, in what's a marvellous renewal of this great race.

It's to one of them I'm turning for my idea of the winner - Gaelic Warrior. The seven-year-old is rated 174 and is presently our third-favourite for the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Stablemate Fact To File opposes today - also in the betting for the big one in March but at 12s, against an 8/1 quote about 'Gaelic,' and in terms of ability I'd say that's just about right with today's contest in mind.

Little separates the pair, plus Nicky Henderson's Jango Baie, in Boxing Day's betting though for the King George. I'm of the opinion that the selection has the trip versatility, pace and finishing resolution required, and fear 'Jango' the most - the Arkle winner should appreciate this step up to 3m and is a very serious racehorse.

It's a marvellous renewal and the likes of The Jukebox Man and Djelo could come along and mug the lot! Can't wait.

15:05 - Ionian @ 5/4

This is all about promise, and potential. After one modest point appearance in April our selection joined the Nicky Henderson yard in October and the four-year-old Blue Bresil gelding is owned by the prolific Michael Buckley, he of Constitutional Hill fame.

He'll need to be smart to take this maiden but it's telling that Ionian makes his stable debut on such an auspicious date in the racing calendar, with of course Nico de Boinville having the riding assignment. Should be an eye-opener one way or another.

15:40 - Kap Boy @ 11/2

Time for the lucky last and I've been tempted by a six-year-old French-bred gelding trained by Olly Murphy, and ridden by the force of nature that is Sean Bowen.

Kap Boy has two wins from eight starts, one of which was on seasonal reappearance at Perth in October at around this trip, off 109. He ran well enough at Cheltenham when last seen under a 6lb penalty 41 days ago, beaten 5l, and those efforts represented a noticeable improvement from last term.

Only Sean and Harry Cobden have ridden him on a racecourse so I'm guessing connections think plenty of him (he races in the famous and distinctive silks of Mrs Diana Whateley).

Trappy one for our our finale but I'm sure we're on one that can go mighty close.

If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £460 for a £7.50 total stake.
