Lucky 15 Tips: Tom looks to have some great chances at Newcastle

Greetings, dear reader. There's an eight-race card at Newcastle on the Tapeta on Thursday afternoon that has Lucky 15 tips written all over it, so that's exactly what we'll do. Three-out-of-four yesterday at Salisbury, decent prices too, so we're purring along nicely.

Jockey Tom Marquand looks to have some nice rides and the racing looks super-competitive. The action kicks in at 14:00.

14:00 - Due Respect @ 5/2

This three-year-old Soldier's Call filly is positively hammering on the door of the winners' enclosure right now, finishing a head and short-head second on her last two spins, and in career-best order.

Five-pounds claimer Rhys Elliott is once again aboard Gary Rutherford's improver, and any reproduction for me of that level of form (or even better) should be enough for Due Respect to take this 7f handicap - same mark as last time, too, six days ago (50).

14:35 - Boston Dan @ 9/4

Tip-top connections, as trainer Richard Fahey saddles a two-year-old Ardad colt who had a lovely staying-on sighter at Chester over this 6f trip 12 days ago in a £15k novice.

No tight turns here, so this youngster should have plenty of time and opportunity to organise himself for a big finish. Huge chance that Boston Dan will benefit from that experience in Cheshire and do owner Mr Kent proud (who also has one with Karl Burke - great taste in trainers!)

15:45 - Godwinson @ 5/2

We mentioned Tom Marquand at the top of the piece and he's got the riding assignment here on William Haggas' Godwinson.

The five-year-old Saxon Warrior gelding won the Lincoln at Donny 89 days ago, and comes here presumably looking to shake off a bit of ring-rust ahead of attacking some nice summer targets.

If he's straight, 5lb higher than for that big early-season success in such an ultra-competitive heat, he must surely take the beating.

17:30 - Ziggy's Triton @ 9/2

Marquand again, this time for another northern powerhouse in David O'Meara, who trains at Upper Helmsley in North Yorkshire.

Famous silks to the fore - those of Middleham Park Racing, and this three-year-old Profitable gelding is progressing beautifully after three runs in maiden/novice company.

Tackles a handicap for the first time off 72 and with the promise of two second places being achieved already Ziggy's Triton has an awful lot going for him this afternoon.

Love the booking of Tom, too - makes exactly the right kind of statement.
