Lucky 15 Tips: Aidan O’Brien second string can take Derby crown

With nine British and Irish meetings taking place across Saturday there's lots of racing action to cater for all tastes. Amongst it will be the top-class Flat card from Epsom, where they have seven races from 13:00-17:40 on ground forecast to be 'Good - good to soft in places'.

We've picked out four to follow for our Lucky 15 tips at the Surrey venue, including a tip for the feature Derby, but it might not be the Aidan O'Brien-trained runner you expect being tipped.

13:00 Epsom - Bright Thunder @ 6/1

There was plenty to take from BRIGHT THUNDER's run at Goodwood last month and Karl Burke's daughter of Night Of Thunder should be up to the job in the opening Group 3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes over the extended mile.

Last time out over a mile in Listed grade, she stumbled coming out of the stalls and lost a couple of lengths, but got back on terms and took the lead inside the final furlong, only to be headed by two horses very close to the winning line.

That tardy start clearly cost the filly come energy, but it was still a highly encouraging effort. She's a dual winner over the trip, including a win in Listed company at Chantilly last summer, and it could turn out to be a good day for the yard.

13:35 Epsom - Ice Max @ 11/1

ICE MAX wasn't the only horse to disappoint in the Group 2 Mile at Sandown and perhaps, given it was the gelding's first run of the year, the effort is worth forgiving. Karl Burke's inmate represents some value in the Group 3 Diomed Stakes.

The son of Dark Angel wore a red hood to post on latest and got quite worked up before racing very freely, and it certainly wasn't a true reflection of his true ability.

A Group 2 winner at Goodwood last year, he will enjoy the forecast slightly underfoot conditions and the horse that finished behind him last time out, Lead Artist, has since won the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes.

14:45 Epsom - Vintage Clarets @ 12/1

VINTAGE CLARETS travelled well for a long way when sixth of 17 in a valuable York handicap last time out, and perhaps he can strike now for the Richard Fahey team, off effectively 6lb lower when factoring in the rider's claim.

He disappointed in this race two years ago, which was his only run at the track, so that has to be a slight concern, but he has a good inside draw to attack from.

15:30 Epsom - Lambourn @ 8/1

Ryan Moore has opted to ride Delacroix in the Derby, but stablemate LAMBOURN arrives here with solid credentials and might well have enough to win.

Although he looked more of a St Leger horse when winning the Chester Vase last time out, he only got going at the 1m2f pole and there will be no stamina issues surrounding this boy. He is a big player.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
