Lucky 15 Tips: It’s Silvestre Day for me at Kempton!

Plenty of attractive racing to get our juices flowing on Friday - and I'm heading to Kempton Park for a Polytrack seven-race evening card that kicks in at 17:47. Brilliant Brazilian jockey and former champion Silvestre De Sousa has five booked rides on the card as things stand and I'm going to make him my main man of the night.

Four at least look to have extremely bright chances and some of Silvestre's favourite yards are supporting him - Roger Varian, Charlie Johnston - all with whom he's had considerable success in the past. It's a slightly different approach but let's give it a whirl! THREE winners yesterday, and the fourth was absolutely cantering when coming down early in the home straight. Sooooo close to a full house!

17:47 - Golden Conqueror @ 13/2

Silvestre's first mount is a well-bred Starspangledbanner two-year-old colt out of a Frankel mare; trained by Roger Varian.

Golden Conqueror is making his racecourse debut and reputedly cost 200,000 guineas at two. The lack of experience is not ideal but the yard is running at 28% in terms of strike-rate over the last 14 days and there's precious little to go on all told form-wise so I'm not concerned.

De Sousa rides plenty of winners for Mr Varian and I'm hoping that this will be another. Seems to be taking this assignment (7f) ahead of a York maiden at weekend (same trip).

18:17 - Just A Gambler @ 5/1

Another who's yet to face the starter, this time a two-year-old colt by St Mark's Basilica.

Just A Gambler made £40k as a yearling and is in the care of Charlie Johnston on Middleham Moor. It's the yard's only runner on the card, and they've had 19 two-year-old scorers so far this season, five of which have been on the all-weather.

Silvestre rides plenty of the Johnston horses when available and I like that this is at the top end of the trips entered into for juveniles, as their runners are invariably as tough as nails and see out their races well.

19:47 - Al Khawssaa @ 7/4

After a couple of speculative hits in the first two contests, this four-year-old Night Of Thunder filly is positively brimming with racecourse experience.

Al Khawssaa is another housed with Roger Varian at Newmarket. Silvestre rode her last time, 23 days ago on this course, as she ran a close, running-on second beaten just 1.5l.

The wicked old assessor has put her up 2lb for that to a mark of 84 but it was pretty much a career-best effort and any repeat will put her bang in the picture.

The horse that beat her the other day has since run second under a penalty, and is now rated 95.

By my reckoning that puts Al Khawssaa in with a terrific chance tonight.

20:17 - Starproof @ 6/1

Silvestre again, this time on board a five-year-old Camacho mare trained by William Muir & Chris Grassick in Lambourn.

Starproof ran three weeks ago at HQ trying to defy a penalty for winning at Ffos Las 10 days earlier. She's in fine fettle then, and is three-from-24 lifetime. Tends to run fairly prominently, and can stride forward from the seven box which shouldn't be a hindrance in a field expected to be nine-strong.

The yard is flying (30% strike-rate), and let's hope by this stage that Silvestre has had a real red-letter day and can squeeze just one more out for us!

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
