Lucky 15 Tips: Pearl Of Windsor can shine at Sandown

Flat racing holds sway across Britain and Ireland on Thursday with five meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening. Plus two jump meetings.

First off is Haydock, then they go at Perth, Yarmouth, Tipperary, Bellewstown, Kempton and Newbury. Read on for my Lucky 15 tips below.

13:50 Sandown– Atlantis Blue @ 7/2

The opener at Sandown is an amateur race over one mile. Jockeys’ ability can range in these types of races, and having a more experienced amateur can make the difference between winning or losing.

Mr Simon Walker is the most experienced out of this lot, and his mount Atlantis Star appears to have a good chance. He’s one of three distance winners in the field, winning twice over a mile last season.

He’s yet to win this season but has run well on both starts, finishing 5th and 4th. A good ride from Walker could prove the difference-maker in this contest.

15:35 Sandown – Pearl Of Windsor  @ 7/2

Although he failed to make much impact on his first two starts this season, Pearl Of Windsor’s latest effort in a Listed race at Sandown suggests he’s now primed to strike.

Sent off at 33/1 and slowly away, he still managed to get within two lengths of the 98-rated winner, Town And Country, while also finishing just behind 97-rated Hold A Dream and 100-rated Star Of Mehmas.

That run earned him a 3lb rise, but even with that, a repeat of that performance would see him look very well treated off a mark of 84. He’s already proven his liking for this track with a win here last year, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him go close if in similar form.

18:40  Haydock – Betty Bassett  @ 7/2

Betty Bassett made the perfect start to her handicap career, winning on debut and getting the better of Quirke On Parole, who advertised the form by running well next time out.

She returned to this track for her next outing, stepping up in grade, and shaped with promise once again.

Travelling strongly for much of the race, she found herself short of room at a crucial stage and was never able to fully open up.

Her eventual fourth-place finish, beaten four-lengths, doesn’t tell the full story, and she’s certainly worth another chance in these conditions

20:00 Beverley – Triple Force @ 3/1

It took 16 starts, but Triple Force finally got his head in front at Nottingham—and he did it emphatically, scoring by nine-lengths. Connections were quick to act before the handicapper could fully catch up, and he backed up that success with another win soon after.

While his pedigree doesn’t scream stamina, the move up to 1m2f on turf clearly brought out the best in him, and he now goes up again in distance to 1m4f. Given how strongly he’s been finishing his races, there’s every chance he’ll handle the step up.

He’s now 9lb higher than for that breakthrough win, but with his improvement over longer trips, he might still have more to come.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
