Lucky 15 Tips: Just wild about Harry at Newton Abbot

As memories of summer fade, and thoughts turn to the winter game and you-know-where in March, how about a little half-way house location on Friday? Gorgeous Newton Abbot stage a six-race card that reminds us of fabulous holiday spots like this outstanding piece of Devon countryside; while the jumping on show (likely soft ground, too) whets our appetites for what's to come, just around the corner.

Action kicks in at 14:03, and Harrys Skelton and Cobden are both here doing their thing. Should be a belter.

14:03 - Art Of Diplomacy @ 5/6

James Bowen rides this nine-year-old chaser for brother Mickey - a prolific performer who's won all four of his last races over fences between June and just 14 days ago.

Art Of Diplomacy even managed a quick spin on the flat at Ffos Las in July in a contest for amateur jockeys but wasn't quite as deadly in that sphere.

He's got a 6lb penalty to overcome, races off a career-high 137, but is in such great form that I'm hoping he can repel a Skelton raider and one other to record another Newton Abbot success.

14:38 - Maldini Milano @ 7/4

Love this name - memories of those iconic shirts and even greater players, entertaining us in and around the 1990s and beyond.

Maldini Milano is a Paul Nicholls/Harry Cobden conveyance, a five-year-old gelded son of St Leger winner Milan. Three bumper runs so far (NH flat races; one win on debut), and makes his hurdling bow this afternoon in this maiden.

When last seen in March at Wincanton he finished a close-up second and being housed at the powerful Nicholls establishment at Ditcheat he's extremely likely to know his job.

Lovely little heat, with Dan Skelton and Jamie Snowden-trained rivals among the opposition.

15:13 - La Belle Argentee @ 15/8

Talking of which - here's a Team Skelton inmate with every chance in this 2m 1f mares' novices hurdle.

La Belle Argentee is a four-year-old with just one very promising spin under her belt, a 4.25l defeat at Wetherby in a junior hurdle similarly restricted to members of her own sex.

Given the yard's ultra-potent reputation that could easily translate to being well-backed here but one or two likely rivals line up against her and let's hope the price holds up.

Being one of the younger entrants she races off 10st 12lb and that's a very handy racing weight. The yard are fairly quiet at the minute but when those floodgates open ....

16:20 - Mohawk Chief @ 9/4

Top-and-tailing our L15 selections with Bowen family enterprises, as here's trainer Mickey and jockey James with another very decent handicapper, this time over timber.

Mohawk Chief is a five-year-old American-bred gelding who won at Hexham when last seen 23 days ago, at slightly short of this trip, and in a lower grade (Class 4 as against 3 today).

He finished powerfully at Hexham to get up on the run-in and that's a very stiff track. Looks well worth a blast in this grade and worth noting that he began life with a certain AP O'Brien in County Tipperary before joining the Bowens in May.

Cracking little heat.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £86 for your total £7.50 stake.
