Horse Racing Tips: Backers will be in love with Left Over

Newmarket’s July Festival is on the horizon, but Wednesday’s action is going to be a good warm-up for the maine vent. There are four British meetings and one Irish card to look forward to and the latter provides some Group 3 action.
Catterick and Yarmouth provide the afternoon entertainment and Fairyhouse’s eight-race card features the Stanserra Stakes, before Kempton and Ffos Las take us through the evening. We have three strong fancies to follow for our Horse Racing Tips for Wednesday and they include a consistent and progressive Richard Hannon runner who should be going close on handicap debut.

15:50 Catterick - Call Me Betty @ 11/2
Michael Dods runs CALL ME BETTY in this 7f handicap and she has progressed nicely with each of her three starts to date. It was a pretty average display on debut at Redcar in May but with hindsight, the 6f trip was clearly inadequate.
Connections stepped her up to 7f at Thirsk next time and she produced a much better display to finish second. Dods’ three-year-old didn’t quite have the pace to challenge the winner but stuck to her task well.
Getting off the mark at Wolverhampton next time, she pressed the leader early on and Connor Beasley pressed the button and held on well after hitting the front with 110 yards to go.
It’s worth noting that the front two were clear of the rest, although the runner-up has let the form down since.
Her profile suggests she’s likely to step forward again and handicaps could encourage further improvement. An opening mark of 66 looks pretty reasonable and similar tactics to last time could pay dividends here at Catterick.

16:50 Catterick - Left Over Love @ 7/1
Following a similar theme, Richard Hannon’s filly LEFT OVER LOVE is also a three-time raced handicap debutant and she has shown plenty so far. A neck away from getting off the mark on debut at Wolverhampton in December, the winner went on to take the Sandringham at Royal Ascot.
She was only just collared when second again next time and the winner is now a 77-rated handicapper. The return to 7f yielded the shedding of her maiden tag at Southwell last time out and she held on well, despite looking a little green under pressure.
All of her form suggests an opening handicap mark of 74 is hard to argue with and jockey Alec Voikhansky takes 3lb off as well. This is a competitive race for the grade but Hannon’s filly should have too much for them.

17:10 Yarmouth - Lady Mariko @ 9/4
LADY MARIKO is clearly a better horse on turf than she is on the all-weather, as all three of her best performances have come on the grass. She was runner-up on her final start for previous connections, where she was beaten by half-a-length at Nottingham.
Making her first start for Dylan Cunha at Wetherby last month, she got off the mark with a game performance over this trip.
The daughter of Kameko was patiently ridden in the early stages of the race and finished her race off well to hit the front line.
A 2lb rise shouldn’t make much difference and Jim Crowley has been booked to take the ride. Further success can’t be ruled out and she’s entitled to go close once again.
