There are five scheduled meetings across the UK and Ireland on Wednesday, with Thirsk and Musselburgh in the afternoon and the evening action from Tipperary, Bath and Epsom.

We have three fancies to follow in Today's Horse Races including a well-treated sprinter who may be about to strike for the first time since leaving Ireland in the first division of the Class 6 6f handicap at Thirsk.

Wednesday Racing Tips

  • 14:45 Thirsk - The Crafty Mole @ 1/1
  • 15:45 Thirsk - Savvy Warrior @ 15/8
  • 17:25 Thirsk - Sounds Of Spring @ 10/1

14:45 Thirsk - The Crafty Mole @ 1/1

THE CRAFTY MOLE is fancied to continue his recent run of success in the seven-runner Class 6 1m 6f three-year-old handicap from Thirsk.

The selection won a similar contest on soft ground at Wetherby in April, showed his ground versatility by following up on good to firm at Redcar in May and ran well when third over a slightly shorter trip on good to soft ground at Doncaster later that month.

Believitanducan reached second in behind The Crafty Mole on the first two occasions, and must have decent claims given the turnaround at the weights, but the selection improved again to win again over this 1m 6f trip at Yarmouth last month, and is thought capable of coping with a 6lb penalty for that latest 3.25 length victory.

15:45 Thirsk - Savvy Warrior @ 15/8

The final suggestion is SAVVY WARRIOR in the nine-runner first division of the Class 5 7f handicap from Thirsk.

The gelded son of Too Darn Hot improved to register a comfortable victory over this 7f trip at Wetherby last month on decent ground, but has performed with credit on good to soft and soft ground in the past, and he is fancied to follow up from a 4lb higher rating.

Sean Woods is 5-23 (22%) with his runners aged three at Thirsk, and Daniel Tudhope is continuing in the saddle. Tudhope is a notable 3-6 (50% +£2.55) when riding for Woods.

17:25 Thirsk - Sounds Of Spring @ 10/1

Heavy rain is forecast in the North Yorkshire area on Tuesday night, and SOUNDS OF SPRING would make significant appeal in the first division of the 11-runner Class 6 6f sprint handicap from Thirsk if getting a favourable soft surface.

The selection has run five times for his new British trainer John Butler since leaving Kevin Condon in Ireland in October 2023.

The seven-year-old showed little in three of those starts on the all-weather but there were chinks of light in his latest performance when beaten by about five lengths into seventh over 5f at Nottingham on good ground in May.

The pick of his Irish form came from 5f to 6f on soft ground. In this month last year, he ran fourth of 15 over 6f on soft ground at Naas, a performance for which he achieved a Racing Post Rating (RPR) of 70. A reproduction of that level of form would be particularly competitive in this contest from a British mark of 52.
