Flat horse racing

Flat racing holds sway across Britain and Ireland on Wednesday with five meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening. First off is Catterick Bridge before they go at Musselburgh, while Bellewstown, Hexham and Kempton Park host the evening action.

Amongst our Wednesday fancies is one for trainer Tom McCourt who has found another very good opportunity for Dollar Value to find his way back into the winner's enclosure in the opening claiming hurdle.

Horse Racing Tips - Wednesday, August 27

  • 15:15 Catterick - Rain Cap @ 4/1
  • 16:53 Bellewstown - Dollar Value @ 5/2
  • 17:45 Hexham - Dickens @ 1/1

15:15 Catterick - Rain Cap @ 4/1

The first bet of the day comes in the 6f handicap at Catterick Bridge as RAIN CAP bids to continue his fine run of form for trainer John David Riches, with Mark Winn doing the steering on this occasion.

This will be the first time that the eight-year-old will contest 0-60 company in a while, but he proved he can mix it in this grade when runner-up over 7f at Redcar back in May.

He defied a mark of 49 over this trip at Pontefract on his penultimate outing last month when doing his best work at the death, and was just unable to reel in tearaway front-runner Langholm here over 7f on his latest start, with the pair pulling nicely clear of the rest.

Rain Cap has a good draw by the rail in stall one so if he can get away pretty sharply, it should set up the opportunity for him to win again from what seems to be a workable mark still.

16:53 Bellewstown - Dollar Value @ 5/2

We head across to Ireland for our next bet, which is the Tom McCourt-trained DOLLAR VALUE in the opening claiming hurdle over the extended 2m4f, with comfortably the best jockey in the race, Darragh O'Keeffe, on board.

Now a veteran at the ripe age of 10, Dollar Value won a Sligo claiming hurdle by 16 lengths around this time last year when making every post a winning one, and he ran well for a long way when fourth at Roscommon on his latest start last month when sent off favourite.

There doesn't seem to be too much pace in this contest so if Dollar Value can build up a nice lead around this sharp track, there's every chance that he will prove very hard to beat.

17:45 Hexham - Dickens @ 1/1

Our final bet of the day is the bang in-form DICKENS who bids to make it a perfect three out of three for new handler Jennie Candlish after leaving Alan King in May.

The seven-year-old gelding bolted up in a handicap hurdle over course and distance on his stable debut in June, and easily followed up when escaping a penalty at Cartmel over 2m6f a week later.

He's a very versatile type. He can run over an array of trips and goes on most types of ground, and still could be ahead of the handicapper.

17:45 Hexham - Winner Dickens
